There's always some new slang word floating around TikTok, and for the past few months, Goofy Ahh has been one of the most popular. Essentially, "Goofy Ahh" is a phonetic African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) spelling of "goofy ass" that's being used by TikTokers to describe other users and silly content on the platform.

In just a few months, it's managed to spread far across the platform and beyond, inspiring more than a few memes on the way. Here's a full rundown.

Where Does "Goofy Ahh" Come From?

The term "goofy ahh" has been used on Twitter since as early as 2009, although it's unclear who coined it. The term is seemingly AAVE and spread around Black Twitter for a while, not going significantly viral until it started popping up on TikTok in 2021 in reference to cartoon sound effects. One of the biggest factors in its spread was a series of "goofy ahh remixes" by TikToker @proddadood where he mixes cartoon sounds into popular songs.

This, in combination with the original Quandale Dingle meme, which reads, "who tf goofy ass name is this bro" in a Snapchat banner, helped popularize the term for the masses, quickly becoming an everyday phrase on TikTok.

How Is "Goofy Ahh" Used In Memes?

Goofy ahh is mostly used as a comment on goofy ahh and 21st-century humor compilations on TikTok. It's used to call out silly, random and ridiculous content and, more specifically, cartoon sound effects, which TikTokers love to mix into these types of videos for an additional laugh. The term is also regularly used by TikToker Ticklemytip in his series of Quandale Dingle lore memes, although he tends to mispronounce the word.

How Do I Pronounce "Goofy Ahh?"

Goofy ahh is pronounced with a long "A" sound, like "ass" without the "-ss." The term is often mispronounced as "goofy aww," especially in TikTok videos.

How Do I Use "Goofy Ahh" In A Sentence?

  • "That's a goofy ahh sound."
  • "My goofy ahh uncle just hit the quan."
  • "I love goofy ahh dogs."
