What Is The 'Catherine Method' On TikTok? The Viral Meme Trend Inspired By 'Catherine McBroom' Explained

One of the latest Snapchat posts from Ace Family influencer Austin McBroom has inspired a viral meme on TikTok known as the "Catherine Method."
The meme is inspired by a confusing series of texts that Austin's ex-wife, Catherine, sent him without explanation, leading other TikTok users to try the method out for themselves.
So what exactly is the "Catherine Method," and how is it done? Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'Catherine Method?'
The Catherine Method began on May 13th, 2025, after TikToker @userxtiktokshopaff posted a video from Austin McBroom's Snapchat channel in which he shares a selection of texts from his ex-wife Catherine.
The strange texts consist of a variety of nondescript, spiritual-looking images without any further explanation. Confused, Austin asks, "What does that mean? What language is that?"
The video gained millions of views in just a few days, piggybacking off the news that Catherine has a book coming out in July that will reportedly share the details of their divorce, which was allegedly due to Austin cheating.
Now, this viral Snapchat video has inspired a trend on TikTok.
@userxtiktokshopaff He was wrong for cheating yes. But I’m honestly 50/50 .. what do yall think ? #fypシ #austinmcbroom #catherinepaiz #chisme #fypシ゚viral ♬ original sound – goldenaura
How Is The 'Catherine Method' Used In Memes?
The night that TikTok user @userxtiktokshopaff reposted the video from Austin's Snapchat, TikTokers turned Catherine's odd texts into a meme.
One of the first known users to do this was TikToker @tu_gallito_, who posted a video of himself sending his crush similar texts only to confuse her. The video gained millions of views and inspired a wave of similar posts.
Essentially, the meme has TikTokers sending their significant others or their crushes strange images without explanation to see how they react.
Mostly, they react with confusion, but sometimes they play along with it, supporting their partner, joking with them or sending strange posts back. If the point of the Catherine Method is to get someone's attention, clearly it works well.
