About

"Mario Don't Save Her" is the name of a song and viral music video produced and released by Brandon Jamar Scott, an Atlanta-based rapper and animator. The song, a parody of the Super Mario franchise, uses the theory that Princess Peach cheats on Mario with Bowser instead of being kidnapped, and expands it to be Peach being "for the streets." The song, released in mid-August 2024, quickly went viral on TikTok and X / Twitter, with users being delighted with the style, music, lyrics and content within the music video while being afraid of what Nintendo might do for disparagingly infringing on its characters.

Origin

On August 16th, 2024, Atlanta-based rapper, comedian and animator Brandon Jamar Scott uploaded his music video to TikTok on his main account bscott2hot.[1] Using his own original audio and animating himself as Luigi within the Mushroom Kingdom talking to Mario, the TikTok gained over 165,000 likes in three days while showing several different instances of Princess Peach cheating on Mario and him trying to talk Mario out of saving her (shown below).

Spread

On August 16th, 2024, X user @DamnThatsZev_[2] uploaded the music video to X with their caption showing how amazed they were at the video. Replies to the thread, which received over 5 million views in four days, noted how catchy the song was, as well as added to the theory of Princess Peach actively cheating on Mario and picking out their favorite details from the music video, with several replies being dancing GIFs to show their appreciation for the beat (shown below).

Days later, on August 19th, 2024, X user @TrungTPhan[3] reposted the video while remarking that Nintendo is in a complicated position due to the song being a banger, yet being a negative portrayal of a Nintendo character. This is in reference to the litigious nature of Nintendo, which has a significant history in aggressively litigating and taking down anyone using their characters or potentially infringing on any gaming copyright, as seen in their shutdown of Yuzu and even copyright striking themselves. The post (shown below) received over 1.5 million views and 9,900 likes in one day.
