What's The 'Brazilian Luffy Dance' Meme? The 'One Piece' Animation That's Gone Viral On TikTok Explained

The "Brazilian Luffy Dance" animation is one of the most viral videos on TikTok right now, especially among One Piece fans who are from Brazil.
The short clip shows a kid version of the character Monkey D. Luffy picking his nose, lifting his shirt and exposing his belly while hitting a little jiggy on the famous "Lapa Steps" in Rio de Janeiro. The animation was originally posted two years ago, but has only recently sparked memes and a dance trend online.
So, where did the "Brazilian Luffy Dance" animation come from? Who made it, and how did it become a meme? Let's explain.

Where Did The 'Brazilian Luffy Dance' Animation Come From?
The original video was created by an animator named Guto Kenji back in July 2023. They posted it on Instagram and YouTube, but it received the most amount of engagement on TikTok.
It shows a kid Luffy from the anime and manga One Piece, but he's Brazilian, seen wearing a Neymar jersey on the "Lapa Steps" in Rio de Janeiro.
Luffy picks his nose and then lifts up his shirt when the beat drops. The dance involves him thrusting his hips and making a goofy face.

What's The 'Brazilian Luffy Dance' Song?
The song used in the "Brazilian Luffy Dance" animation is called "Forte Forte de Lacoste: Pra Começar o Final de Semana," by DJ Jeeh FDC, MC LCKaiique and MC Celo BK, featuring DJ Arana and DJ Menezes.
The myriad of DJs and MCs on the track dropped the song back in June 2023, a month before Guto Kenji created the animation. The brand Lacoste does not make an appearance in Guto Kenji's version, though, like it does in the music video.
How Did The 'Brazilian Luffy Dance' Become A Meme?
After the success of the first video, Guto Kenji posted several Brazilian dance animations featuring other characters from anime, like Saitama from One Punch Man, Goku from Dragon Ball and Naruto from Naruto.

The edits led to memes in 2025, as the Brazilian Luffy Dance became a visual punchline in anime memes. People began recreating the dance around the same time — sometimes in their homes or a parking lot and other times at the original staircase in Rio.
