These pumpkin carvings have gone mega-viral on TikTok and the rest of social media lately, seen with mouths agape and tongues out. They're arguably super cute and would look lovely on any porch this fall.
However, where did this trend start? Who made the first Dumb Ahh Pumpkin and what does "dumb ahh" mean anyway? Let's explain.
What Does 'Dumb Ahh' Mean?
"Dumb ahh" is a variation of the slang term "goofy ahh," which originally went viral back in 2022 when Quandale Dingle was the face of the brainrot internet.
"Ahh" was originally an AAVE term, and it's simply a different way to say "a--." So, "dumb ahh" is just another way to say "dumba--" but in a more endearing and less harsh way (sometimes also used as a form of algospeak).
Who Started The 'Dumb Ahh Pumpkin' Meme?
The original Dumb Ahh Pumpkin meme was actually posted last year despite the trend going viral only recently. The first version read, "dumba-- punkimg," playing on the butchered spelling of "pumpkin" as a way to emphasize the creature's stupidity.
Unfortunately, it's currently unknown who carved the pumpkin in question. The first discovered posting of the image was in a TikTok slideshow but the text caption is obviously written in Instagram story text.
The Dumb Ahh Pumpkin meme is more viral this Halloween because of a TikTok trend in which creators mimicked the pumpkin face shown above. The 2024 trend was started by @adamhammmmm who posted his video earlier this month and racked up over 8 million views.

What Is The 'Dumb Ahh Pumpkin' Meme Based On?
The face of the Dumb Ahh Pumpkin is based on the Smiling Buck Tooth Emoji. Back in 2023, meme creators began using the dopey emoji to represent being innocently stupid, predominantly using the caption, "Are you stupid?"
The Smiling Buck Tooth Emoji adds to a lineage of dumb emojis like the Nerd Emoji who's supposed to be smart but is too cute to take seriously. Amid this Dumb Ahh Pumpkin trend, of course, someone had to carve out the nerd to remind everyone of this meme's dorky roots.
