Posted in 2018, 'Celebrities Shop Too' comic by Mysillycomics has since become a classic format about being starstruck by your favs. The simple meme format has the protagonist reaching for some canned peaches when an unexpected encounter occurs… What does the phrase "peach time" come from and how to use the format properly?

What Is At the Store / ‘Peach Time'?

"Peach Time," also known as "Celebrities Shop Too," is a four-panel cartoon posted by artist Mysillycomics in October 2018. The original version of the cartoon shows the protagonist shopping for canned peaches at a grocery store, and, as they reach for a can, another person reaches for it as the same time, with the third panel revealing that the person is in fact Hatsune Miku. Startstuck by meeting a celebrity, the protagonist mumbles Miku Hatsune's name.

The comic is utterly absurd: starting from the sole can of peaches standing on a display and the character commenting "peach time," to the fact that Miku Hatsune, despite our heartfelt desires, is a fictional character that you cannot possibly meet (sorry Miku army). That, combined with the comic's natural editability, made "Peach Time" a hit format on Tumblr and X / Twitter both.

Where Does The Phrase 'Peach Time’ Come From?

The phrase "peach time" did not actually originate with the comic: instead, it likely borrows it from an earlier Rage Comic meme format of the same name popular on Tumblr. The original Peach Time meme was first posted in May 2013.

'Peach Time' In Memes

Easily editable thanks to its simplistic art style and providing a very straightforward message, Peach Time is an exemplary thing I like meme format. The format has been popular across Tumblr, X, Reddit, iFunny and pretty punch everywhere else for the past four years: just edit in your favorite fictional character and recaption a couple of lines, and your meme is ready to get those likes.
