If you've ever seen an episode of the anime Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Super, then you've undoubtedly seen the main character Goku do some fighting. As the main character, he's always the one that has to be the most powerful, which only begs the question, "Who is Gohan Blanco and why are memes saying he's stronger than Goku?"

Who and What Is "Gohan Blanco?"

Put simply, Gohan Blanco is the character Gohan, which is Goku's oldest son, with white hair obtained from powering up to Mystic form. This Mystic form was acquired during Dragon Ball Z in the middle of the Majin Buu Arc and was meant to be a way to make Gohan relevant again and have him take over the story as the main character.

Unfortunately at the time, it was determined that Gohan would waste his power-up and be once again relegated to a side character with untapped potential that squandered it, much to the angst of fans that have always rooted for Gohan. With the release of Dragon Ball Super, however, Gohan once again tapped into his potential and powered up to this mystic form with a white glow to him, which in Spanish makes him become "Gohan Blanco."

Just in case you weren't aware, many Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas love Dragon Ball Z. We don't mean enjoy, we mean LOVE it to the point where thousands of fans poured into a city square to watch a projected livestream of one of the biggest fights in Dragon Ball Super — not to mention that countless restaurants and shops have commissioned artwork of Goku or Broly in some form on the building as an art installation.

This love of Dragon Ball Z combined with the fan love of Gohan and many wanting to see him finally use the power that he showed as a kid made Gohan Blanco into a powerhouse of a meme throughout the latter half of the 2010s after its inception in 2017.

Why Is Gohan Blanco Trending Again?

Gohan Blanco was a big meme when the episode first came out, and it continued to be one during Ultra Instinct Shaggy memes as a contender to fight the indomitable Shaggy, but those all eventually faded away.

What brought the Gohan Blanco meme back was instead a trailer for the new Dragon Ball Super movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which focuses on Gohan more and had leaks detailing a new form for Gohan that gives him solid white hair — essentially making the Gohan Blanco meme a reality. A fan took a screenshot from the movie and digitally altered it to give Gohan the white hair and red eyes that were leaked to be in the Final Gohan form, which reinvigorated the character's fanbase.

What Is Super Saiyan Blanco?

Super Saiyan Blanco is just another way, a Spanish way specifically, of talking about the newer form of Gohan that was leaked to be coming to him in the upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie where Gohan has Super Saiyan powers but white hair.

Gohan Blanco came from a Spanish translation of the "Gohan with White" aura, which comes from his Mystic Form he first acquired in Dragon Ball Z.
