Who Is Izutsumi, The Catgirl From 'Delicious In Dungeon' Becoming A Meme Star?
Anime fans, there's a five-alarm Cat Girl fire happening thanks to Delicious In Dungeon, as manga fan-favorite Izutsumi recently debuted in the show. If you've seen fan art of a cat girl from an anime you can't identify in the past month, chances are it's probably her. Here's what you have to know about the cat lady at the center of a new wave of memes.
Who Is Itzusumi?
In Delicious In Dungeon, Izutsumi is a half-human, half-beast creature who has some feline features, such as pointy ears and a tail, due to a curse placed upon her. Initially, she is a member of the side character Shuro's party. That party meets up with the main characters, led by Laios, who are on their way to find the Lunatic Magician to save the dungeon and perhaps Laios' sister.
When Izutsumi learns of their goal, she elects to join their party with the hope the Lunatic Magician can break the curse on her.
Since she joined Laios' party in the anime in episode 19, which aired on Netflix on May 6th, anime-only fans have been enjoying the character's prickly demeanor and cat-like traits, which include a general independence and resistance to trusting the rest of her party. In the latest episode, she begins to literally act like a cat after the group is transported to a realm that has tamed beasts.
How Have People Been Memeing Izutsumi?
If you've been on the internet when anime fans find a sassy cat girl, you likely know how the internet is memeing Izutsumi: lots of fan art and "no thoughts, head empty" type memes.
There are also multiple examples of memes where Izutsumi is transposed into other famous cat memes, such as woman yelling at a cat and Coughing Cat.
Also of note, Izutsumi was the original inspiration for the Draw your faves getting cooked in soup meme from last year, as a panel of the character in a pot of soup went viral.
