Izutsumi is a character in the manga and anime series Delicious in Dungeon. She is depicted as a beast man due to a curse placed upon her that gives her the features of a cat. The character has inspired numerous memes and fan art since her debut in the manga.

Origin

Izutsumi, a girl with a curse put upon her that gives her the features of a cat, debuts in Chapter 32 of the Delicious in Dungeon manga, which was released on April 15th, 2017.^[2] She is initially a member of the side character Shuro's party.^[1] She later breaks off from Shuro's party and joins the main character Laios' party with the hopes their journey will lead her to discover a way to break the curse put upon her.

Izutsumi was quickly a target of memes due to her catlike features. For example, on December 8th, 2019, Redditor oroxoss posted a Delicious in Dungeon-themed redraw of the Woman Yelling At A Cat meme featuring Izutsumi as a cat to /r/manga.^[3] The post gained over 2,700 upvotes in five years (shown below).

Over the following years, particularly after her 2024 debut in the show's anime, Izutsumi inspired numerous memes and was often redrawn into popular cat-related memes.

For example, on May 9th, 2024, Twitter / X user @MissIcyArt^[4] redrew Izutsumi as the Coughing Cat, gaining over 1,800 retweets and 18,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On May 10th, Twitter user @foolish_potato_^[5] drew Izutsumi in the Thour meme trend, gaining over 280 retweets and 1,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).

The character was also the inspiration for numerous pieces of fan art. For example, on May 18th, 2024, Pixiv^[6] user ivie drew Izutsumi in modern human clothes, gaining over 160 likes in one week (shown below, left). On May 19th, Twitter user @foolish_potato_^[7] drew art of the character that gained over 4,300 retweets and 30,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).
