Why Are People Defending DanTDM Against Logan Paul And KSI? The 'Minecraft' YouTuber's Criticism Of 'Lunchly' Explained
DanTDM was one of U.K.'s biggest YouTubers with his Minecraft gaming videos helping him set records in YouTuber viewership and making him one of Forbes's highest-paid YouTube stars.
But this was an era of YouTube long before KSI and the Sidemen began to dominate the hitherto nerdy YouTube clientele, replacing gaming videos with dating ones, and video diaries with vlogs.
So when DanTDM chose to criticize current influencer giants MrBeast, Logan Paul and KSI for making and marketing Lunchly (a Lunchables competitor) as a "healthier" alternative and called them out on trying to cash in on their audience largely made up of children, it was no surprise that his fanbase rose to defend him.
Here's why you might be seeing a slew of memes and other reactions across the internet lately telling Logan Paul and KSI to back off from DanTDM and leave "YouTube Minecraft Jesus" alone.
What's Up With 'Lunchly' And Why Did DanTDM Criticize MrBeast, Logan Paul and KSI For Promoting It?
In September 2024, YouTubers and content creators MrBeast, Logan Paul and KSI began promoting their Lunchables competitor, "Lunchly," comprised of chocolates from MrBeast's "Feastables," sports drinks from Logan Paul and KSI's "Prime" and a variety of simple foods.
They even managed to rope in The Rizzler (Christian Joseph) to help announce the launch of their new product and began marketing it as a healthier alternative to other snack foods on the market.
But DanTDM apparently had something to say about it. Shortly after the product launch, he quoted a post about Lunchly and said, "What happened to YouTubers man.. I can't not say anything anymore." He went on to criticize the trio for making a cash-grab product marketed directly to their audience largely made up of children who would buy things from them because they are simply too young to know any better.
How Did Logan Paul and KSI Respond To DanTDM's Criticism?
Not well. KSI seemed to take it the hardest, posting a YouTooz collab DanTDM did to try and point out his "hypocrisy," even going so far as to dig through DanTDM's second channel to find a nine-year-old video in which he promoted some candy.
Of course, KSI had a YouTooz figurine himself, and many expressed that a one-time merch deal for a clearly marked candy advertisement couldn't really be compared to making high-sodium snacks marketed as electrolytes for children. These facts led to him getting ratioed over and over again on Twitter / X in recent days.
Then came infamous YouTuber Logan Paul's response.
He countered DanTDM's criticism by saying that YouTubers wanted to "build businesses" now, that Lunchables have been found to contain lead and that Lunchly is indeed a healthier alternative. The post almost immediately got a Community Note added to it, which said that a version of his drink had been found to have lead in it as well.
MrBeast had his own response defending his new product, but he was careful to avoid criticizing DanTDM himself. Instead, he chose to reply to a general DramaAlert post covering the controversy.
How Did Internet Users And Other YouTubers Defend DanTDM?
The backlash against Logan Paul and KSI was nearly instant, with many internet users being shocked that anyone would choose to beef with the so-called "YouTube Jesus."
Other internet users posted memes and jokes about their dedication toward DanTDM, ranging from Will Smith saying, "Keep my wife's name out of your mouth" to ironic videos of growling wolves.
Then came the host of other OG YouTubers like JackSepticEye, who wrote, "You mess with DanTDM, you mess with youtube."
It's safe to say that some of the most high-profile and uncontroversial YouTubers have been taking DanTDM's side in the brief online tiff, which some would say isn't the greatest achievement given that dunking on Logan Paul should be considered "punching down" in most respects.
Now, we must wait and watch to see if this development has any effect on the success or failure of "Lunchly," which is still catching a considerable amount of flak from the wider internet who has many doubts about the food product.
