While a certain piece of Smash Ultimate News has dominated the online discourse about yesterday's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo made lots of announcements which should have fans excited for what will soon be coming to their Switches.

Lots of Smash Ultimate Announcements

Let's get the big one out of the way first: yes, Sans is coming to Smash Ultimate as an alternate skin for the Mii Gunner character. This is absolutely nuts and blows open any preconceived notions of who is eligible to appear as a fighter in the game. But that's hardly the only Smash news Nintendo announced yesterday. More immediately exciting, Nintendo announced that Banjo and Kazooie, begged for by Smash fans for over a decade, finally became a available fighters.

Oh, game director Masahiro Sakurai announced a new fighter: Terry Bogard from the Fatal Fury series.

Ports!

Nintendo also announced lots of neat ports coming to the Switch, including Overwatch, the phenomenal, Return of the Obra Dinn, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore, Trials of Mana, and Vampyr. The cult hit Deadly Premonition is also available on the Switch right now, and a sequel was announced for 2020.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Announcements

Pokémon Sword and Shield naturally appeared in yesterday's Direct as well. Though the announcements in yesterday's Direct weren't as earth-shattering as some others, we were introduced to Polteageist, a teapot Pokémon, and a "Curry Dex" system which allows you to experiment with ingredients to make power-up items when hanging out with Pokémon.

Super Nintendo Ports

Finally, the last major piece of news Nintendo announced is that loads of classic Super Nintendo titles are coming to the Switch, and are free if you're paying the $20 annual subscription to Switch Online. The titles include Star Fox, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.
