Two memes from _Supernatural_.

Top TV Memes: The Best Meme Formats From 'Supernatural'

Supernatural had a great run at 15 seasons. It recently ended on the CW in late 2020, but its determined fandom will ensure it always lives on. First airing in 2005, this is the story of brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they travel the U.S. hunting ghosts, demons and shapeshifting vampire wraiths appropriately named "Jefferson Starships."

Despite the show’s fandom-identified prime ending after the season 5 finale, Supernatural continued on. And after the introduction of Misha Collins’ Castiel and the main apocalypse arc, no one knew where the show was going from there. Fortunately for us, neither did the writers, and it wound up evolving into a classic show full of memes. Here are some of the best episodes and where to find them.

My life is ruled by a vicious cycle of and Demonic possession. Daddy issues.

As a new plot began in season 6, many memes emerged from the experimental ashes of the former show. In what is often considered the best Supernatural episode of all, "The French Mistake" involves Dean and Sam being teleported into an alternate universe, where they are Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the stars of a Canadian TV show called Supernatural. Unfamiliar with this nightmare universe, Dean and Sam have no acting skills and no plan to get home, and eventually a killing spree unfolds after an enemy angel is sent into the real world and discovers guns.

In the midst of the chaos, Castiel’s counterpart Misha believes he’s being pranked by Dean and Sam (or Jensen and Jared). He later finds himself kidnapped and held at knifepoint by Virgil the murder-happy angel, who kills him while he sobs dramaticaly. This became a reaction image known as Misha Crying, which is often shared as a GIF as well. While this may be the only famous meme to come out of this episode, it is far from the only joke the internet could abuse from this episode.

Most Meme Potential: Season 6, Episode 18: "Frontierland"

In this episode, Sam and Dean are transported back in time to an old Western town in search of a weapon. Amongst the Back to the Future 3 jokes and realistic depictions of scurvy, Dean and his cowboy hat stood out to viewers and sparked an image macro known as You’ve Yeed Your Last Haw. Unbeknownst to many, this line was not actually spoken during the episode, but the image does come from an overdramatic high-noon-style showdown with a villain, so it fits perfectly for the line.

When an anti-vax kid turns 3 You've yee'd your last haw.

There’s another forgotten moment in this episode that’s perhaps the most awkward dialogue in the entire show, which takes place between Castiel and Jim Beaver’s Bobby. Castiel says to Bobby, "I need you to let me touch it," in reference to his soul (it would take six years of lore to explain that part), which is then followed by some uncomfortable pauses and repetitions of "Touch it?" and an assurance that Castiel will do it "very gingerly." There’s a limitless number of jokes that could be made here, and it’s unclear whether or not the writers thought this dialogue through before sending it to the studio, but this has led to meme content within the fandom that deserves to become more mainstream.
