Top TV Memes: The Best Meme Formats From 'Family Guy'
Family Guy is a long-running TV show that first aired way back in 1999. Starring Seth MacFarlane as the voice actor of Peter Griffin, the show follows the chaotic lives of the Griffin family in Quahog, Rhode Island. Throughout the series, Peter screws things up for his family and others around him while his wife, children and family dog do the same in increasingly elaborate ways. Family Guy is rated highly by many audiences, while successfully creeping out many other audiences at the same time depending on who you ask.
This show is deeply intertwined with meme culture and is often said to rely on a sense of dark humor only meme fans are corrupted enough to understand. The Family Guy Effect is a real phenomenon that causes memes to spike in popularity when alluded to on the show, and a number of famous formats have come out of this show, such as You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? Here are some of the best episodes of Family Guy to find the best potential memes.
Most Popular Memes: Season 10, Episode 2: "Seahorse Seashell Party"
In this episode, Meg (Mila Kunis) has had enough of her family’s rude behavior towards her and society in general and begins to spiral into insanity. While the rest of the family lounges around in fancy clothing, Meg exclaims "I am sick of all you guys ganging up on me! You guys all think you're so much better than me!" This has been shortened to "You Guys Always Act Like You’re Better than Me," and since has become a very popular meme that continues to increase in use regularly, with 2018 being the meme’s best year. But with everything going on in the disease-ridden world right now, there are a lot of other potential applications that remain underappreciated.
However, this meme is far from the only potential format that comes from this episode, for example, Peter consumes magic mushrooms and chops his own ear off in the fashion of Leonardo Da Vinci. At the end of the episode, Stewie faces the audience directly to warn them about the dangers of drugs as if you were back in middle school health class. While the other moments haven’t been as widely joked about online as Meg’s outburst, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be.
Most Meme Potential: Season 5, Episode 3: "Hell Comes to Quahog"
In this episode, we learn how Pepperidge Farm Remembers. Specifically, the episode is punctuated by an ad for Pepperidge Farm's Milano cookies, in which an elderly spokesperson in a carriage reminds the viewer that he knows about the pedestrian they hit at the crosswalk all those years ago, and if they don’t buy the cookies, he can and will expose them for their hit-and-run. This meme has been around practically as long as the internet itself but still has a surprisingly effective result when used as a meme in the modern-day.
In the rest of this episode, Peter buys a tank while car shopping with Meg. He then uses this to destroy the town while the other residents learn about capitalism further destroying the town. Throughout the episode, Peter laughs in the face of suffering as he does in the rest of the show, but this time with his suffering daughter in the background as montages of societal collapse play over it all. Throwing in a casual murder at the end, there’s really no limit to the kinds of memes this episode could create.
