Although people have been scratching inside their buttcracks since the dawn of time, the activity initially gained internet prominence back in 2019, when a meme showing rapper NBA YoungBoy was created.

In it, he's shown saying in three parts, "I can care less if we stop talking / 'Cuz regardless of if we talking or not / I'mma still dig in my butt." The subtle recaption meme was riffing on the gross subject.

As of now, it's currently unknown who created the meme and where they posted it first. The earliest post we could find was shared in a Reddit comment to the /r/im14andthisisdeep (a community that mocks "deep" attempts at philosophical things) subreddit in March 2019.

Two months ago, Instagram user @notesonifone posted one of the first variants, showing comedian Kevin Hart giving Jarvis Commands, trying to get his butt dug.

What Is The 'Start Digging In Yo Butt, Twin' Meme, Also Known As 'SDIYBT?'

Earlier this month, a TikToker named @oe._ytv1 built on the "Digging In Yo Butt" meme in an inventive way. They edited a clip from SpongeBob SquarePants to make a robot SpongeBob tell Plankton, "Start digging in yo butt, twin."

The catchphrase was later abbreviated into the acronym "SDIYBT," which mirrors the popular "SYBAU" slang term from roughly the same timeframe.

The "SDIYBT" video has had a lasting impact, standing out among the other iterations of the "Digging In Yo Butt" meme, as more robot SpongeBob edits are getting made and going viral on other platforms like Twitter.
