About

NBA YoungBoy Singing Opera refers to a highly edited video of rapper NBA YoungBoy singing opera with multiple CapCut effects like laser eyes and flame explosions. NBA YoungBoy is not actually singing opera in the video, which originally showed him singing into a mic without autotune. People thought that his singing was bad, so they used the video as the base for a series of Artists Who Can Sing vs. Artists Who Can't Sing memes that ironically powerscaled him against other artists who were better vocalists. The trend led to a meme comparing YoungBoy to singer-songwriter Beabadoobee who addressed the memes in a viral video that she received backlash for because people thought she was overreacting.

Origin

On November 21st, 2023, Complex shared a video to YouTube[1] in which the site went to NBA YoungBoy's home in Utah to interview him, receiving over 2.1 million views in two years. At the video's 4:52-minute mark, NBA YoungBoy can be seen rapping without autotune into a large microphone (shown below).

On November 30th, Instagram[2] user @iamtrapvip clipped the abovementioned video and shared it as a Reel, gaining over 850,700 likes in two years.

On April 3rd, 2024, TikToker[3] @thangverse posted a video that powerscaled rappers Rod Wave and NBA YoungBoy in a "Rappers who can sing vs. Rappers who can't sing" video, ironically identifying NBA YoungBoy as the rapper who can sing, using the clip of him from Complex's video. The TikTok received over 699,300 likes in 10 months (shown below).

WowMao also shared the video to YouTube[5] on July 16th, gaining over 10,000 likes in eight months (shown below).
