What's Going On With A TikToker Named Sarah C. Roberts Calling For Elon Musk's Assassination And Bragging About Tax Evasion? The Controversy Explained

In a classic case of people saying the quiet part out loud on social media, a TikToker named Sarah C. Roberts called for the assassination of tech billionaire Elon Musk in the same breath as she admitted to dodging taxes for eight years.

The now-viral video led to Sarah getting her whole TikTok nuked, but not before someone grabbed a screen recording of her confessing to tax evasion and reposted it to Elon Musk's own website, X (formerly Twitter), where it was massively amplified over the following days.
Here's a recap of the fallout from the Sarah C. Roberts controversy and how it spread online recently.
Who is Sarah C. Roberts and What Did She Post to TikTok?
Sarah Roberts was living her best "anonymous" life as @sarahcroberts on TikTok until late February 2025 when she decided to threaten one of the world's richest men while simultaneously confessing to tax crimes — all with her entire government name as her TikTok handle.
In the video first reposted by Instagram user @therealanthonykort, Roberts suggested someone should "assassinate" Elon Musk, then immediately pivoted to taunting federal authorities by boasting, "I haven't filed my taxes in like eight years, and yet, no one's come for me."
As if that weren't enough self-incrimination for one video, she doubled down with, "So I'm gonna say it: let's assassinate some motherf------."
How Did Elon Musk and Government Officials React to Her Video?
Not well. The video went viral when conservative account Libs of TikTok shared it on February 24th, tagging the FBI no less, and generating over 12 million views.

Elon Musk, never one to miss a mention, spotted the video and responded with the digital equivalent of siccing the hounds, tagging D.C. Attorney Ed Martin with a terse, "Death threat and admission of multiple counts of tax fraud."

Martin, seemingly eager to demonstrate how quickly the wheels of justice can turn when a billionaire and influential figure is paying attention, quoted the video with the ominous reply, "Duly noted. Thx for letting us know. We'll put you in the system. Talk soon, M'am. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw."

Roberts promptly deleted her account, discovering too late that the internet is forever, especially when you've managed to anger both the IRS and arguably the world's most Twitter-obsessed billionaire in one fell swoop.
Who Else Weighed In on Sarah Roberts' Post?
As Roberts' video spread through conservative social media circles like wildfire, and even the most prominent figures on Elon Musk's team couldn't resist adding their hot takes.
Donald Trump Jr. diagnosed Sarah C. Roberts with "leftism," to his millions of followers, while the aptly named account @WokeWarRoom described the clip as "what a mental breakdown looks like."

With a now-defunct TikTok account and the wrath of the U.S. government against her, the message sent out to those wishing ill upon Musk is clear: Before posting a death threat and tax evasion confession online, perhaps one should ask, "Would I want this played back during a federal investigation?"
