This will be a semi-interactive observer campaign in Europa Universalis 4. You can create your own country and then watch it find its place in the Early Modern Era.

Creating a Country

Please provide the following:

1. A description or picture of your flag.

2. Nation name and adjective.

3. Religion. Here's a list of religions in the game.

4. Government: Monarchy, Theocracy, Monastic Order, Oligarchic Republic, or Merchant Republic.

5. Lore/history/culture/etc.

6. Territory (how to claim land is explained further below)

Claiming Land on the Map (setup)

When making your nation you must claim a few regions on the map below. Color in the map using MSpaint or some other image editor program, draw a dot or a star at the location where you want your capital city, then post the resulting image in this thread. You are limited to a certain number of regions based upon where your capital is located. Gray may select 3 regions, Purple may select 4, Orange gets 5, and Green 7.

You may select across color boundaries if you want. Your capital location is the deciding factor for how many regions you may select, what culture your nation is, and what your tech group will be. Please choose regions that are relatively close to one another; if any of your regions are landlocked away from each other I will tell you to change your selection.

Important things to Note

The gray area is the Holy Roman Empire (HRE). If your capital is in the HRE you must be a christian denomination (preferably Catholic) or else your country will be destroyed very quickly. Nations inside the HRE may fight each other, but nations outside the HRE cannot invade HRE lands without also going to war with the Emperor, an elected nation which is typically the most powerful country in the HRE.

Certain map areas also have tech disadvantages, based upon where you put your capital. Orange area has a 20% increase in tech cost, and Green has a 40% increase. Your nation may westernize at some point in the game, removing this tech cost restriction, but until then your country will be a bit weak compared to the more advanced nations in western Europe.

If you want to colonize the Americas you must be touching the Atlantic Ocean. Starting anywhere else it will be too far away for you to send settlers. While it is possible to conquer provinces along the Atlantic and then begin sending colonists from there, I would recommend that you instead just start the game on the coast if your dream is to be a colonial power.

Time Progression and Commands

The starting year is 1444, and each "turn" will last ten years. Between turns you may issue commands to your country. You do not need to do this, it is just an option.

You do not need to know anything about EU4 to issue such commands; just pretend as if it is a real country and tell it to do something a real country might do, and I will simulate this as best I can in-game. For the most part, EU4 only deals with diplomacy, conquest, religion, colonization, and land development.

Because the AI is in complete control, there is no way to guarantee that your country will follow your commands to the letter.

You can issue these commands here, in the thread, or via PM.

Also what would we put for a flag?

Fug, I didn't notice that. Thanks for the reminder. Here's my borders:

For the most part they are highly xenophobic and will only trade with the mainland for resources they are in desperate need of.

Haha! Finally. I can play as an alternate history country. I was initially against playing as even a similar country, but eh, why the hell not. It makes sense in 1444. Also, >not reaping the benefits of HRE and their extremally dense development.

Government :
(Ambrosian Republic, would you kindly? If not, then:) Merchant Republic

History:
As the Duke of Milan died heirless in 1441, he left the duchy in confusion. Amongst the other claimants, a new idea arose from the coalition of merchants and intellectuals, to restore the republic that Milan once was. Rapid changes brought the wrath of their neighbors, which resulted in a series of wars. Due to military genius of multiple commanders, and better organization of armies, the Golden Ambrosian Republic conquered nearby regions, although Venice and Savoy still need to be beaten.

Half the history of Camarilla is one of is one of intrigue, politics, murder, thievery, and conspiracy dating back to it's birth but the nation stands as the last, a shadow war of mercantile infighting, assassination, thievery and grand plots for power, wealth and prestige.

New nations are on the map. To Crow and Tyranid: Since you did not select enough regions, I took the liberty of choosing for you.

A rule that I did not know about is that if a Merchant Republic has more than 20 provinces they slowly become a dictatorship. To amend this, I have decided to switch Latice (which has 29 provinces) to an Oligarchic Republic.

As it stands, this is what our claims map looks like right now:

I would like to have around 15 or more player nations before we begin.

Pezcado added to the map.

I am also going to make my own country, because why not.

Flag:

Name/Adjective: Templar/Templar

Religion: Catholic

Government: Monastic Order

History: While seeking land to build a Monastic State as the Teutons had done, Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay and his Templar brethren were accused of multiple heresies by the French King Philip IV. The King, hoping to absolve his severe debts to the Templar, threatened war upon the Papacy if the Templar were not disbanded and its members destroyed. However, Pope Clement was keen enough to see through Philip's lies, and de Molay collected a coalition of friends to challenge Philip to back down. The French king refused, and war ensued. The resulting peace revealed the issue of heresy in France itself, and the monarchy was judged to be too inefficient to deal with such a problem. To pay off France's massive debts and simultaneously counteract the issue of paganism throughout both France and Britain, in 1322 the Templar were given a modest state stretching from Normandy to Orleans. Over the course of a century and with the unwitting assistance of the English during the Hundred Years War, the Templar gradually carved out a larger domain for themselves across the whole of France.

Make me a grand empire please thank you

1. lazily made this in game

2. Greater Lancashire

3. Protestant (I know you can't start protestant, so can I be catholic and converted when reformation occurs?)

4. Merchant Republic. We have overthrown the obsolete monarchy and now the people will come together to make our country great again.
Actually fuck that, monarchy seems more fitting if i want to be a grand world spanning empire, so I'll stick with that.

5. Formed when the people up north like got sick of all the posh cunts in London and down south, so they overthrew them like, now everyone has a much better accent. (No extra lore for you cos I'm lazy, use your imagination)

6. Is this alright

Come at me scrubs, ive got a france to kill, a channel trade node to dominate and an america to colonize.

Lancasters added to the map.

I'll probably start the simulation later today. Since I didn't get near my target for player nations, I will be adding three or four more customs of my own.

One final nation, Khuzait, added by Xin is a Tengrist mercantile kingdom situated between the Black and Caspian seas.

I have also added two more nations of my own: Amazon, an orthodox society of warrior women descended from steppe traditions, and Zion, a Jewish nation springing forth from Vilnius, aka "New Jerusalem," in the wake of Mongol power.

Everything is locked in now, and I am not accepting new nation applications. I have also rearranged the map so that certain nations that became split up severely, including Mamluks, France, England, Lithuania, and Ottomans, now have more sensible borders. Also, I have converted all of Scandinavia to Norse so that the Nordic nations have some friends to interact with.

I will be posting the first turn report soon-ish.

I have several questions, Syndic.

1. How will our turns look like, since AI is running our countries?
2. Could you please post all of the custom nations ideas? They significantly alter the gameplay.

1444-1460

The wars get off to a very fast start in 1447 as Latice makes the first move and declares upon Syria. The Ottomans promise to help the Syrians, but prove innefective due to their lack of routes into Latice. Surrounded by enemies, the Turks cannot find anybody willing to give them right-of-way.

The Great Northern War begins in the same year as Novgorod attempts to invade Sapmi. The Nordic alliance of Sapmi and Frittland organizes its forces and then launches a counterattack, first retaking the Sapmi capital and then driving east and south into Novgorod proper.

Also in the same year, the Lancasters decide that it is high time to annex Scotland. The former does not fare well, and the Scottish army is wiped out as soon as the fighting begins, their entire navy cornered in Lothian's port.

Less than a year into the war and Lancashire has become the first nation to conquer something.

In 1449 the Kurds begin their warpath by invading Aydin.

Also in 1449, Barcelona and Pezcado declare war on Hueynation and the Templar to conquer the western half of the Basque land. The war is evenly balanced, and both sides find themselves unable to make significant advances against their enemies.

And another war in 1449 was begun when Camarilla began its unification of the Danish people. Denmark, with no allies, quickly crumbles.

Some time in 1449 Ambrosia became embroiled in a war against Savoy, Switzerland, and France. They were defeated so quickly I didn't even get a screenshot of the war in progress. They have lost Novara and Pisa to the Savoyards. They quickly wised up to their vulnerabilities, however, and forged an alliance with Hungary, Austria, and Aragon within the year.

Meanwhile, the war in the fertile crescent becomes much more serious than it ever was before as Qara Qoyunlu declares war on Latice and the Turks somehow find a way into Syria. The Laticians get rapidly pushed back across the Levant.

In 1451, Kurdistan has conquered Epirus through the power of love, making them a vassal through peaceful means.

In a not-so-peaceful development, Lancashire realizes that they are on a roll and declares war upon Naotho in 1452. It is looking like the entirety of the British isles will fall under their dominion in short order.

1453, and the Barcelonan War to Conquer Hueynation is still raging on. Castile, sensing an opportune moment of weakness, convinces the Pope to excommunicate the king of Barcelona and then promptly declares war. Unable to fend off four foes at once, Barcelona and Pezcado quickly make peace with the Templar and Hueynation, that war ending in stalemate with no gains on either side.

Novgorod finds itself in a similar situation, as both the Livonian Sword Brothers and Finland declare war once they realize that Frittland and Sapmi are winning. Finland comes out on top as the Great Northern War ends in 1453, after six years.

Meanwhile, in the near east, the tides have turned. Latice has thrown back the combined Turkish and Qara Qoyunlu armies, reversing its fortunes and pushing into Iraq. The Ottomans, realizing that Syria is not worth their time or effort, give the country to Latice and then go off on a warpath of their own.

In 1454 Khuzait ended a very brief and very successful simultaneous conquest of Chernigov, Golden Horde, and Nogai. Beyond this, however, the Khuzaitian Khaganate has done absolutely nothing. They don't have a single diplomatic relation, not even an ally. They seem to be either entirely isolationist or believing themselves to be invincible.

1455, Barcelona has finally cracked. Their war-weary armies completely destroyed, the forces of the Pope and Castile meet up in the city of Barcelona itself and celebrate their imminent victory.

At the same time, Lancashire has finally convinced Naotho to give up the fight. They were unable to breach the Naothoan stronghold in Iceland, but at the same time the Naothoans were also unable to land troops in Britain. The war was something of a boring drag, with almost no fighting on either side.

Meanwhile, in NPC central, Burgundy has caused a continental war by attempting to conquer an HRE princedom. France, Austria, Hungary, Ambrosia, and a myriad of other nations are all involved.

1456, and Latice finally ends its decade-long war in the near east, annexing much of Syria and Iraq. The Turks continue their warmongering by trying to take a piece of the decaying Qara Qoyunlu country for themselves and Iraqi seperatists rampage about in the south, vying for independence.

The Kurds declare war upon Byzantium in 1457, sounding off the death knell for the old Roman state.

The Great Northern War 2.0: Electric Boogaloo begins in 1457, kicking off via a joint invasion of Finland by Sapmi and the Livonian Knights.

Barcelona finally concedes to the Castile-Papal treaty in 1458, giving away half of their heartland to the vile conquerors and agreeing to terminate their alliance with the Zoroastrian Moors.

Now without allies and starved for manpower thanks to the 9 year war they just came out of, Pezcado finds itself too weak to repel an invasion by Tunis, Touggourt, and Djerid. The barbarian hordes come streaming out of the Saharan desert to seize what they can.

Europe in 1460 is fairly peaceful, with very few major wars ongoing. Muscovy is on the verge of collapse to rebellion, having lost a war against Zion quite terribly and gone bankrupt. The Great Northern War 2 has drawn close to a close, with Sapmi taking a chunk of their northern lands, although Livonia is still attempting to take a piece for themselves.

Alliances in 1460. Khuzait only just this year decided that there was a nation worth their time or effort, and forged a bond with Latice after witnessing their tenacity in the decade-long conquest of Iraq.

If we want specific actions to be taken can we say them or do we have to pray that the AI is thinking like we are?

For certain actions, I will actually swap tags to play as your country and force it to do something. These things will have to be done in a single day in-game, because I will never unpause the simulation while in the seat of a nation; time only turns while I am in observer mode. I can do a lot of things in this way, such as force a culture conversion, forge an alliance, or swap out an idea group. For conquests, I will assign claims over the region you want conquered; it is up to the ai whether or not your country actually tries to conquer that land, but the ai is very good at sensing and creating diplomatic weaknesses in their enemies. They will only go to war if they think they can win.

Here is a couple of examples of actions that I will be taking for my own custom nations:

Amazon: Break your alliance with Muscovy.

Templar: Conquer the last piece of France around Paris and form an alliance with Savoy.

Zion: Try to expand by conquering those small nations at your eastern/southern borders. And form an alliance with Amazon (or anybody else who is willing).

You can try to do anything you want, and I will do my best to find a way to make it happen ingame. If there is something you say to do that simply is not a part of the game's features (and is thus impossible) I will let you know.

Aurea Ambrosia:
- When the idea groups kick in, be sure to select offensive. Best military idea group tbh.
- Try to conquer smaller countries in the area – Genoa, Venice, Urbino, Papal State; prefferably with Austria's help. Not all at once, of course. If it's possible, change rivals to those countries + Savoy.
- When it comes to diplomacy: Try to forge alliance with the Templars, Bohemia if it fails. If Aragon isn't the overlord of Naples, break alliance with them.

- try to vassal bosnia, as well as any other small provinces in the area, or annex them
- invade karaman and fully annex them
- invade ottomans and see how much land i can get before big coalitions appear
- ally bohemia.
- royal marriage any allies and vassals
- first idea group should be quality

The Most Serene Republic of Camarilla

- For Camarilla the best offense is the best defense since to them having a strong military to scare off any potential invader is good for them. Also the Camarilla will rather have top quality army even if it means it's short.

-Martime trading, diplomacy and Espionage and influences are their main objective on dealing with the world.

-When it comes to diplomacy they would rather make a favorable impression with their neighboring nations for now and try to find trading partners.

-Humanist and Innovation ideas would be explored over religious ones.

-

Pezcado

-Have my military fend off the invaders, and if successful try to invade Tunis.
- For diplomacy try to issue a ceasefire with the other invades and make allies with Mzab and the other countries in Iberia.
-if possible can I find out the status of the country southwest of mine?

Clownfish! wrote:

-if possible can I find out the status of the country southwest of mine?

That is Sus. They don't like Pezcado and currently have a much larger army.

fyi you dont issue ceasefires in eu4, you make peace treaties giving them land/money/etc and then a 10 year truce happens between both.

Barcelona:

- Convert official religion to protestanism.
- Try to forge an ally with Napoles, and if possible a royal marriage over it.

1460-1479

1460, Pezcado has made peace with the barbarians. Tunis demanded a modest territorial concession, but beside that there has not been much lost.

Finland is almost removed from the map at the conclusion of the Great Northern War 2, with Livonian Order more than doubling their size.

The Templar go to war with France in 1461. After quickly eradicating the French army, they go on to annex the capital city of Paris, finally and officially usurping France.

The Kurds continue to work towards the unification of Anatolia by going to war with Saruhan.

The Lannisters Lancasters have placed a man of their own on the Castillian throne, essentially adding half of Iberia to the Lancashire domain.

Camarilla goes to war one last time against Denmark in 1463, conquering the last holdouts of the Danish kingdom.

The Kurds finish their war with Saruhan, taking only a single province despite their overwhelming victory. It would seem that Kurds are a naturally merciful people. In addition, Kurdistan has formed a Union over Bosnia due to the untimely death of the Bosnian king, who had no heir.

Declaring war on the Ottomans, the Kurds find an easy excuse to rampage across Saruhan once again. Once again they are merciful, only taking Bozok despite their vast claims across most of Anatolia.

1464, and war breaks out in Italy. The Pope has excommunicated Aragon and, alongside his Genoan ally, has sparked a war with Ambrosia in an effort to weaken the Aragonese crown.

Meanwhile, Armagnac and Hueynation declare war upon Barcelona, which still finds itself exhausted from the last war and completely without allies.

A string of largescale revolts have broken out in Karelia and across Finland. The region continues to be torn apart by war.

1465, and Khuzait has declared war upon Muscowy. The Muscovites, their army recently destroyed by a band of rebels wandering out of Finland, are unprepared for the invasion and soon crumble.

Camarilla completes the conquest of Denmark, essentially becoming the old Danish state in all but name.

Another war breaks out in 1465 thanks to Kurdish aggression. Fortunately for everyone except Kurdistan, the Kurds decided to do nothing with their victory, annexing no new lands from Karaman.

Khuzait finishes its war against Muscowy in 1467, isolating the Russian capital from the rest of its territory.

Simultaneously, Armagnac ends its war with Barcelona, annexing much of the dying kingdom.

And another war for Iraq breaks out, Latice ruthlessly pressing its advantage against Qara Qoyunlu to the fullest extent.

The Aragonese Excommunication War ends in 1468, with Ambrosia gaining territory from Genoa and Aragon seizing some Papal lands.

Hueynation has gone to war with Pezcado in 1470. The defense is costly and unsuccessful, causing Pezcado to go on the verge of bankruptcy.

In 1471, Lancashire has gone to war with Naotho again to complete their conquest of the isles. Iceland was breached this time, the Naothoan capital occupied briefly by Lancasters before peace was made.

In 1472, the Kurds decide to debut in Europe proper by marching upon Venice.

1473, war in the Crimea breaks out. Genoa and Zaphrozie attempt to finally purge the Muslim hordes from southern Ruthenia.

The war in Ireland ends at last, with the Lancasters taking control of every piece of the British isles except for Wales and Cornwall, which they soon set their eyes upon.

Less than a year later, they are already at war.

The Great Northern War 3 breaks out in 1473. Rebels have rearranged the borders since then, taking much away from the Livonian Order. Finland, seeking revenge, has rallied together some allies in Sweden and gone to war with Sapmi.

In 1474, the Huey-Pezs war ends, with Hueynation taking much of Pezcado's most valuable territory, including their capital in Gharb.

Meanwhile, Muscovy has been torn apart by its neighbors, Novgorod taking much of their northern lands and splitting them into three pieces.

The Great Northern War 3 ends quickly, with Finland coming out on top.

Tunis declares war upon Pezcado once again in 1475, although Pezcado has thus far been able to keep them from taking any territory and, in fact, have made advances of their own.

Kurds are at it again in 1477, once again going to war with Karaman and taking nothing from their target in the peace deal.

Templar have gone to war with Britanny in 1478, as the Breton ruler is exommunicated and the Templar strongly desire the enemy's peninsular kingdom. This has led to war with Burgundy as well, who have drawn much of the Templar attention.

Europe in 1479. Pezcado has been declared upon by Sus, and are losing the war on that front due to their hefty investment into destroying Tunis. Zaporozhie has expanded into Crimea, and the Kurds have taken Greece from Venice.

Alliances in 1479. Frittland and Camarilla have succeeded in forming a Scandinavian faction, keeping the peace between themselves and Norway, Sweden, and Sapmi. The Lancasters have nominated themselves as the first to take pity upon Barcelona, but have also allied with Armagnac, to keep either nation from conquering the other. Their interest in peacekeeping in the region is no doubt due to their recent Union formed with Castile, which very much makes Iberia and southern France a part of their sphere of influence.

My tanglement with Naotho shall come to an end and my nation shall focus its efforts on the continent. Calais must be under my control, and im happy to go to war for it. Guess an alliance has to be broken, or vassalisation to annexation must happen. i am fine with my diplomatic situation for now, and my idea focuses will be left to my trusty advisors (dont fuck up, AI)

Aurea Ambrosia:
- Put claims all over Genoa, Savoy, and the Papal State. Declare war on Venice and annex it, prefferably with Austria as a war ally.
- Improve relations with Lancastshire, break alliance with Switzerland near the end of the turn. Try to get alliance with the Lancasters, against the Knights and Hueynation.
