Ahh I got the weekend off. Looks like I am staying on this show for a while. As of now all I can tell you guys it's a reality show on a major network. But now its time for ponies.

Yeah, I think I'm going to be off as well, I still have a very minor headach after the events of today.

See ya later!

Sorry to hear your sick. Hope you get better. I'm sending you somepony to help.

Alright, so I've been hanging out in the KYM Brony Brotherhood on Steam, and I've learned a couple things.
First thing is that the characters are supposed to be exaggerated, and that apparently isn't mutually exclusive with being relateable and believeable.
Another thing is that I'm trying to enjoy a cartoon in the wrong way. If the world doesn't "work", I can't relate to it, and thus can't enjoy it. I care too much about consistency and things making sense, and that not what's supposed to be the most important, correct?
So I'm asking, when you guys look at a cartoon, what do you look for? What do you pay attention too, and what do you just cast aside? I think this would really help me understand what I'm supposed to be looking for.
I also think giving a comparison to the "crappy" cartoons of the 2000's would help, so I can have some frame of reference.
I feel like if you guys are able to enjoy it, then I should be able to as well, it's just a matter of getting me there.

Hi there Nitendork, haven't heard from you in a while. Anyways, to answer your question. Honestly, I watch just about anything. From horror to chick flicks, Rom coms to drama, Cartoons to action. Its not like before I start watching, I have to think about what Im going to watch and prepare accordingly. You just need to loosen up, you care to much about these rules that you feel every form of entertainment needs to adhere to. there isn't much I can say that can help you enjoy the show except that you shouldn't over think it.
"I feel like if you guys are able to enjoy it, then I should be able to as well, it’s just a matter of getting me there."
Ummm, i don't know about that. I don't think any of us had to adjust to like it. You can't force yourself to like something, no matter how hard you try.
Its great that you are putting so much effort to try to enjoy something, but honestly, If you didn't get hooked by watching more than a few episodes, you will probably never get hooked.

Well of course you don't, but you've been watching cartoons all your life. Remember, I'm completely new to the genre, and since I was apparently being so "nitpicky", I must have been too concerned about the wrong things.
Since I'm so new to it, I sort of have to actively look for quality, and I might need some guidance this time.

Ok, true, Ive watched cartoons all my life. Im sorry though, I can't level with you. No matter what I am going to watch, I don't have to adjust my way of thinking to watch it. I can watch Saving private ryan and then hoogens heroes and at no point will I think that hoogens heroes is unrealistic. I understand its not a drama, but a comedy. But its not like I made a conscious effort to accept the world that I am watching.
Im not trying to offend you in anyway, Im just saying though that I don't think you can force yourself to like it.

If you want to try to like cartoons, try Hey Arnold. Its just about kids living in a city and going to school. thats it.

Lets be honest though, most likely both are just a product of soviet propaganda. I find the fact that all the greatest snipers happened to be from the soviet union hard to swallow. And lets not forget Fyodor Okhlopkov and his 500 something kills. Im sure they were good snipers, but it was in the governments best interest to stretch the truth, boost the moral and all.

While I do believe that the Soviets stretched the number a bit, you can't deny that they must have filled top 10 lists for most kills simply because….there was so many of them. In WWII, the Red Army deployed Snipers at squad-level. That means one out of every 10 men was a sniper. Even during the cold war the Russians maintained a sniper at platoon level which means one out of around 50 men was a sniper. Most other armies deploy snipers at Company level (200 men)

That's an incredibly high concentration of snipers so it's really a matter of numbers breaking through.

But the U.S. and Europe aren’t actually that different, we just use different names.

The U.S. is the only country that uses the Dollar. Europe is the only nation that uses the Euro, with a few exceptions (British bastards, don’t you agree Algernon?). So when it comes to the currency, we aren’t that different.)

I'll assume you're using this to comedic effect. :P

RandomMan wrote:

Like the name U.S.A. already says, it are the UNITED STATES of America. In similar ways you can see Europe as the United Countries of Europe. We just call each section a country, you guys call it states.

We’re not that different, the U.S. just had to feel fancy.

It's not the same. Saying that the EU is like the United States is like saying the GCC is one country or that the entire world is one country because most of us are in the World Trade Organization or the UN.

The EU is unity on the lowest scale. Some shared laws and currency as well as easy border transition but it ends there. And many people feel THAT is too much of infringement into National sovereignty.

One thing Russia done wrong (besides a million other things) is have ONE central government be responsible for such huge amount of land. The good thing about the USA system is, basically u get a bunch of little territories that have their own laws and stuff, yet when something happens everyone joins in (like national defense and stuff). This makes it easier to manage the land and help/punish the population. Canada has the provinces, that have a similar task: National government – Provincial government – municipal. That means if something has to change you get more people to look into an issue. Where Russia has one central government that has to look after 6,592,800 sq mi and some 140,000,000 people. Doesn’t work that way. You gotta split up the power into provinces, states in order to gain control and actually get something done. European Union is sorta like that, all separate countries, yet common goal.

It's easy to see why such a system developed in Russia: Large amount of land and few people per square mile. In addition, the vast majority lived in the far west. The tenants of central government versus a distributed one is too long a subject for this thread but suffice to say, it does seem like China has a unity of purpose while the United States seems almost schizophrenic.

Also, to keep this about ponies:

If Luna and Celestia operate a diarchy (A system of government with two rulers of equal power) it would explain why both are called "Princess" rather than queen.

On Earth, such systems existed (Ancient Sparta, Rome) but as you might guess, they quickly devolved into civil war or SOME sort of discord.

It amuses me that even immortal peaceful ponies can have this system and still fail. Maybe they're not so different from us after all.

@Nintendork

This probably wouldn't help you (since you are trying to overlook mistakes), but I try to find mistakes and then lol at how the animators or writers overlooked it. Then I go on and enjoy it as a lulzy cartoon. I probably can't help you much either.

The reason that I personally love the show and the fandom is because of the imperfect, but completely original storyline and world that the show takes place in. Whenever the show is inconsistent or goes against your headcanon is annoying, but you find a way to mash every little bit into your headcanon to make it make sense.

Like everyone else said, don't force yourself to watch and like it. It might just not be for you for whatever reason.

Enough text, it is the time of pony.

I think I know why Rarity hates dirt. She's allergic to it. But she didn't sneeze when she was near dirt before. Excuses, excuses. Oh Rarity.

Okay. After being asleep for about 6 hours, this thread's still talking about history, geography, and Rarity. I've seen horror movie ponies(LOVE!), WarHammer 40K Celestia(WANT A LUNA VERSION), and a discussion about Equestria's system of government. And Pheonix, I see what you did there with the last word of the 3rd chunk in your section about the diarchy.

Do you have something against Rarity? Do I have to…."take care" of you?

Thanks, I"m feeling better today, though I'm kinda sore right now.

Well this was unexpected. I don't know about you guys, but I could use some hugs and ponies right now.

Just recently I ruined a friends party by smashing her glass coffee table while drunk.. I just sat on the thing and it shattered. My drunken self did not see that coming.

The party was over instantly. I ruined everything

Now my friend is having a mental breakdown over it and I feel the worst guilt in my heart. Not to mention having several deep cuts in my ass.

I have not felt this sad and guilty in a long time

I need Pinkie Pie, where is she?

That being posted, this is one of the reasons I don't get drunk, the other reason why is that it makes me sick.

WHY DID THEY USE THAT HORRIBLE FOAL MODEL!?! But unless I'm missing something about adoption or something it appears that any type of pony can breed to make any other type.

I don't see what the problem is. Pound and Pumpkin were adorable. They also posses a lot of compassion and understanding. Especially when a pony realizes she can't handle babysitting two apparently skilled babies.

Finished the new episode!
Ok, so, first, how do pony genetics work? Two earth ponies can have a unicorn and a pegasus?
Second, Scootaloo can't fly, but a month old foal can not only fly but CARRY PINKIE PIE?
Third, unicorns can use telekinesis to fly, so canonically, they are better than any other type of pony. Seriously, why is that?
Forth, you can use magic to walk through walls? Why haven't we seen that around yet?
Don't get me wrong, this episode was DAAWWWWtastic, and I really loved it. But man alive did it bring up so many questions about the pony world.

That episode killed me. As soon as the hospital came up in the opening scene, all I could think was "No. NO. NOOO!!!!"
Then came the newborns and my heart imploded from the D'AAAWWW.
I am now typing this in a coffin.
Funeral will be on Tuesday.

@chaotic
I feel a great disturbance in the Force.
Almost as if a million fanfics suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I don't mean to sound rude or inconsiderate but why would your friend be having a mental breakdown over a coffee table? Is it an heirloom of some sort?

If it as me I would be more worried about my friend have shards of glass in him.

As for the episode:

I liked it. I love any episode that involved family and this was one of them. Pound and Pumpkin were cute and most importantly….

WE FINALLY FIGURED OUT PONY GENETICS! Though……Mr.Cake seemed awfully suspicious.

@chaoticthunder:

The first part isn't unusual, sometimes children have genetic traits not found in either parent but in their ancestry.

As for Scootaloo…has it ever been mentioned that she can't fly explicitly or because we haven't seen her do so mean we simply assumed it?

For all we know, she prefers being on the ground or on her scooter?

As for flying telekenesis. I doubt it's like flying, more like short range hovering.

Pony genetics, how do they work?

But yeah, I think Mr. Cake mentioned that his family had unicorn and pegasus blood in them which explained the foals being a pegasus and unicorn.

Such skill at such a young age. I'm not that good at divination but Pound and Pumpkin have a bright future.

Hey everyone.
After the… ahem, debacle earlier in the week, I just…
I guess I needed a break.
From the thread and the brony community, really.
I guess I was just… fed up? I dunno.
But… I knew I needed to take a break.
So… I did.
And then I made a thread that gives some reasons as to why I'm so constantly pissed off.

And Connor, what was really pissing me off is that you were ignoring the problem as if nothing had happened, when something obviously did. Why did you want to get me labeled as such an ass, and why were you acting like you didn't do it 5 minutes after admitting you did?! Do you not see the holes in your logic?

sigh
Whatever.
I saw the new episode, by the way. It was good, I liked it, but for some reason I think it's going to be one of those episodes the community hates.
Pumpkin's overpowereed magic was explained as a magical surge that evidently comes and goes for unicorn foals. I swear there's a trope for that….
And yeah, someone answered as to why Pumpkin and Pound were a unicorn and pegasus.
And they obviously changed the foal model from Mare Do Well, if even slightly, because I was no longer disturbed by them and thought they were cute.
Also, why in the Hell were they asleep in the same crib? There's two of them!

This is the sixth seven millionth time we have rebuilt our headcanons, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.

It's the evil, lifeless eyes of the foals that ruin it for me. If they had normal eyes like filly Cheerilee then I'd be alright. I'm just waiting to see Lyra and Bon Bon pushing a pram together.

@CitationNeeded
Can we put this behind us? I never meant to get you involved or make you look bad. It doesn't matter now anyway. Glad you didn't leave us all, we would have missed you.

Pinkie Pie put them there. Why? Well why did she try to cheer them up? Why did she want to play with them? Why did she want to celebrate their birthday when they were just born? That's just the way she is. Also, it's because of the Sonic Rainboom.

Wow, I'm getting better at this.
