Logan Paul uploaded (then deleted) a video of him finding a dead body in Japan

This is absolutely surreal. Not only did they treat the discovery of a suicide like reaction video, but through some convoluted thought process they decided it would be a good idea to upload the video as a clickbait vlog. I don't even know what to think of this, it's just so strange.

On the topic, this short documentary does an amazing and respectful job of explaining the Suicide Forest and Japan's suicide issues in general.

It's also fucking annoying that no matter how many times he fucks up or what he does, his followers still follow him, mostly because they are all little kids. They don't understand what he did was wrong and they continue to defend him but then again, this does happen a lot with other fanbases too of course.

And once again, YouTube probably had no plans of giving shit about this until people started making it trend. They just keep on demonizing those animation videos that takes a lot of time to do and other more entertaining content because "dear god, there was swearing, that's horrible". And even if the biggest YouTuber's would call him out, he would still be going and going.

I know people still hate Keemstar a lot but i think he said it pretty well:

The thought of uploading a video featuring an actual hanging dead body as part of a comedy blog is just disgusting. I seriously wonder how Logan Paul thought this would be a great idea for a video. Did he not foresee the backlash, or is he too dense to realize it?

"I thought I could make a positive ripple on the internet, not cause a monsoon of negativity"
How the hell could showing a hanging body and talking with it create a positive ripple, you sick fuck?

Moreover, media outlets are all regurgitating this formula:
a) He apologized!
b) He didn't do it for the views, he did it to spread awareness!
c) You haven't heard of him if you are over 18
d) People are upset. How do YOU feel?
e) Yes, he is related to Jake Paul.

Some double standards here dear KYMers. It was okay when Slobodan Praljak's suicide was memed and suicide process was showed, but it's not okay when Logan Paul did it. Of course, because it's hip and cool to hate him. Yeah, I haven't watched any videos by him, but I know he is among most hated people on youtube.

>goes to a place where suicides happens
>films it
>uploads it to YouTube while violating one of Youtubes rules
>everybody gets mad again and then he deletes it

Reminder that he's one of the people who got invited to YouTube Rewind 2017 while Pewdiepie isn't

Praljak was convicted as a war criminal and was facing life in prison or execution, so he basically committed suicide as a giant middle finger to everyone. It's famous mainly due to the fact that it happened on live television; it's not like the broadcasters were planning on filming a suicide.

This guy on the other hand went to an infamous suicide spot in Japan and then filmed a corpse for no real reason other than baiting out views. "Raising awareness" my ass.

You forgot to mention that Slobodan Praljak is war criminal, and hated and mocked by many after knowing his sins.

Fallacy much?

1)Praljak's fault wasn't proven.
2)He is considered a war hero by more than 50% of Serbs.
3)Bombing of "Stari Most" wasn't proven either
4)Those "ethnic cleansing" is a revenge for jigad in Bosnia in 90s.
5)He treated prisoners well

Now compare sentences:
Serbs over 1000 years, croats – 294, bosnian muslims – 42, albanians – 13

You are a fool if you think he is a war criminal more than others. His fault wasn't even proven.

Pewdiepie calling out Logan Paul

__________
Also lets not forget the fact that Logan massively damages the relationship between tourists and Japanese people

I'm gonna have to ask that we keep the discussion relevant to Logan Paul and not get sidetracked with discussing the morals of the Praljak trial.

However, I do not know why your previous post is being downvoted. It raises a good point:

It was okay when Slobodan Praljak’s suicide was memed and suicide process was showed, but it’s not okay when Logan Paul did it.

Everyone is criticizing Logan Paul for acting disrespectful towards a suicide. When the Praljak video was released, it was non-stop memes and nobody questioning the morals of the event. Of course, the two events are vastly different: one was meant as a public political statement from a tried war criminal and the other is a douchebag looking for publicity. But both are suicides nonetheless, and I can definitely see the hypocrisy here.
That isn't to say what Logan did wasn't wrong and I still think the backlash he's getting is deserved. But it's interesting to see how people react differently to controversial issues like suicide depending on the situation.

There seems to be a bizzarre disconnect for you lot regarding this Logan Paul video and the barrage of memery that's come from mr Praljak's death. Let us take a closer look at this all.

You lot seem to be arguing that Praljak's death is ok to be memed and shown widely and exploited because of the content of his character. Yes, he was a war criminal, let's agree on this lemma. Now the graphic imagery of him entering death is not what makes content unacceptable, as you are clearly okay with seeing it. What's of concern is the exploitation of the man's character and, as Praljak was quite rude, he is deserving of such.

So let us have a closer look at what you're all riled up over. Logan Paul goes into the forest with his gang, having heard rumors of it being a scary place, initially quite light-hearted. They come across the body and freak out for a bit before calling the police. No jokes are made at the person nor is anything gratuitous done to really drive it in; the identity of the corpse is hidden through censorship. The gang reacts as one might naturally do when unsettled, with shocked expressions and nervous laughter, and doesn't linger for too long.

One might suppose that mr Paul should have just not uploaded the video at all, but that is sort of missing the point of his channel. He's a vlogger, so he, you know, logs his life, and something like that is very significant to his life experience and would be a strange omission. Perhaps the entire forest section could have been cut out, you could imagine, and have him tell the story in a hotel room later on, though it would rid the logs of him and his friends' genuine reactions to the event, which, again, undermines the point of his channel. The inclusion of the forest sequence was a mere stylistic choice that was perhaps not the best one.

The truth of the matter is that many of you already have a very strong preconceived bias against mr Paul. It is of course futile to try to change your minds as you've already decided that he should be thrown off youtube whenever your favourite youtuber said you should think so. Perhaps you will at least try to consider things, but I find it unlikely.

I'll probably regret saying this but is it too early to request a lock?
Because I'm requesting it
I mean if this "comparing a Youtuber to a War criminal" keeps continuing, then I'm concerned about it

The internet has made fun of the suicide of tons of individuals and even the murder of others, regardless of innocence or occupation, what exactly made it different when paul did it that made people angry? or are we just looking for excuses to pile on the man.

This is beyond double standard, there are probably three or four standards

The one who downvoted didn't read the part where I said "probably regret" because I now regret that it's too early
_________
Aside from this "derailing" issue, can we take a look that Logan got so many views and likes without being noticed by YouTube to the point that Logan deleted it by himself.
Meanwhile there are other Youtubers who got their channel terminated for useless reason such as this:

Can we take a look that he monetized that video that involves a dead corpse
Because I fear that 2018 may be the YouTube Adpocolypse 3.0

Remember when Pewds said a bad word and it garnered international attention?

This walking anus films and "reacts" to the body of an individual who he did not know, had no real reason of being there, and let's be honest, was at that point looking for shock views and had no honesty.

I think what makes this different from the Praljak suicide is context. No one really even knew that man existed until last year. We didn't understand how much that man had done to his country, and it seemed too complex to understand the bigger picture. Now I'm certainly not defending the meme, luckily it kind of died quickly and quietly mostly I think because people didn't know who the guy was and why he did commit suicide in the first place. Also, the images released only showed him drinking the poison, not the aftermath of it. (Heck even news knows not to show pictures of dead bodies)

What makes this different is it's a foreign person going up to the dead body of a total stranger, and filming it for shock value. This had no bigger picture to it, Logan knew what he was doing was wrong, and had no issue publicly displaying an extremely disrespectful scene. I think this is made a lot more reaction, because Logan does have a big following, he does have influence over a massive amount of impressionable kids. (Look at him at vidcon and how he and his hoard of teenagers trashed the place) To a lot of people, Logan just sent out the message to kids that being a complete asshole is ok if you have some thinly (And I mean as thin as dime-store toilet paper) veiled "message" attached to it.

There, my soapbox has collapsed and I have no clue how this will affect Youtube and stuff as a whole.

Reap what you sow. It might boomerang back.

@Stoffe: Good post.

Is he genuinely sorry or just trying to save face cause he got caught? If its the former then i commend him for acknowledging his mistake, if its the latter, well then fuck him.

I know its already been said, but it is kinda fucked up that he can get away with filming actual dead bodies, but if you use profanity or have some background music in any of your videos it'll get demonetized.

The way I'm seeing this as, he was monetizing the suicide of somebody's family member.
How would you feel if, say, your mom or dad or sibling killed themselves, and then some random tourist finds their body and films it to then upload onto the internet to make cash off its views. It would feel like shit and would piss you off in probably unimaginable ways.
And don't bring up "he censored their identity," because that means jack shit on the internet. That man had family somewhere, and they'll have to live with the fact that the information of such an intimate tragedy was then released unto the world to be exploited for gains for one guy. Also, maybe I'm being a pessimist, but I don't doubt that that family's identity would be found out and some assholes would then start sending them pictures or the archived video of that man's dead body, a la what happened to Zelda Williams when some jackoffs started harassing her with pictures of her father's corpse.
Yes, Stoffe, I get he's a vlogger and this would be a big, potentially life-changing event that he would want to share as part of what you can loosely describe as his "career". But he could've also shown the smallest, tiniest, minuscule amount of tact and respect and not monetize it.
In short –

A typical braindradead social celebrity that acts like a disrespectful idiot and his equally stupid fanbase full of shallow insensitive children defend him? Color me surprised…

Also, i now have even more reasons to hate the Paul brothers after one of them acted like a douchebag here in Italy. So i stand with the Japanese people.

And the internet edgelords are already making memes about this shit…

"Gee, 2017 sure was bad, but let's try to be better and make sure 2018 isn't wor-" (Famous youtuber literally abuses a suicide victim for fame and profit on the first fucking day of the year)

It's almost like there's a higher power that just enjoys fucking with us

In short –

A deleted video people are making certain to still share through mirrors; featuring a corpse exploited by people who already loathed Paul prior to this event as a tool to make the rest of us join their circlejerk.

I'm quite certain both those factors only increased the odds of people discovering the corpse's identity and pulling a Zelda Williams, don't you think. You have people believing all the atrocities of 2017 are already stumped by Youtube man™ filming a corpse. This wasn't about respecting suicide to them, this was about Logan Paul, and the suicide is just a tool to achieve that goal.

These are the events that shape a person. Most won't know how to react to a corpse the first time they see one. Paul probably went there expecting to make some walks in the forest while acting scared, but instead he saw a corpse almost right away and had to improvise on the spot. He should've approached it a lot differently and do a better job editing the video afterwards, but when you're faced with a corpse like that you're kinda at a loss what to do.

I think focusing on Paul is kinda ignoring the point that we should have a serious video on japan's suicide epidemic.

Then again, we're getting pissed off at Paul because he keeps focusing on himself….

by focusing on him.

He still took time to direct his camera men to get the best shots of him during the "stumbling on the dead body".

That argument completely goes out the window for me not only because of the monetization, but the sheer fact that he even uploaded it in the first place. There's really no excuse for this.

Don't fucking get us metalheads into this. That dude is not ours.

This is sickening, to say the very least. Us humans do have the instinct to make jokes when we come across something very shocking. It's called shock humor, I believe. But even with that as a defense, this is not okay. You don't go into a place famous for suicides and then go batshit when you spot a dead body, that's like going into the Louvre and going crazy when you see a famous painting. Adding on to that, while the original video is not monetized, his "apology", if you can call it that, is. Him trying to pass this off as a PSA about suicide is disrespectful to the organizations dedicated to helping those on the verge of suicide and all the people who have volunteered for said organizations. Logan Paul didn't get banned for this but anyone else uploading a video of a corpse would. These double standards on famous YTers being able to do this shit but if anyone else makes the slightest infraction on arbitrary rules they instantly get a strike or get banned need to stop. The sad thing is because YT has a monopoly on the whole video-sharing site ecosystem, no other platform has the brand recognition, the audience, or the creators that Youtube has. What's someone who objects to YT rules going to go to, Vimeo?

This goes back to what Stoffe said: He's a vlogger, he documents his life; big events like this are kinda important for a vlog.

He still took time to direct his camera men to get the best shots of him during the “stumbling on the dead body”.

Piss poor approach, even worse editing, and awful judgement to actually upload it with the corpse shots like that. But I stick with what I said, I can understand he was kinda at a loss what to do when he went to that forest and was suddenly faced with a guy hanging there (then again, when it's called "Suicide Forest" you can expect that's for a reason).

My main beef was that people are judging this event over Logan Paul being in it, not over what actually happened. Hate this event because a vlogger did a dumb, not because Paul did a thing. It makes it appear as if this would've all been a-ok if it happened to Filthy Frank or Jontron, which I'm certain we don't wish for this to go down as.

If he even wanted to do a PSA, he shouldn't have posted the video of him going to the suicide forest. Rather he really could have just made an actual PSA, saying how Japan having a suicide forest was a dark thing and leave a few links to sites that focuses on helping those with suicide. Instead he and his group of buddies just go into the suicide forest and screwed around. Also, much as the original video isn't monetized, he sure as hell gotten a lot a views along with the video itself trending on Youtube. Beyond Logan Paul, YT isn't really doing much good since as you said: they won't give Logan any sort of punishment but they could go after some other Youtubers criticizing him. Take for example: Cr1tikal makes a video where he rants about Logan Paul's video. Youtube takes it down because "misleading or insufficent metadata".

@UltimusDraco
If one thing is for sure, 2018 gets a bad world wide start with an annoying Youtube personality. While Logan Paul can say his video wasn't monetized, it sure as hell got a lot of viewers, even to the point that it was trending on Youtube.

@robepriority
In regards to all of this, Logan Paul is an annoying stain but on that same note, it really is morbid that Japan has a suicide forest which really would shed light on a dark aspect within Japan.

Japanese police want to question YouTube star Logan Paul over the “insensitive” video of a man hanging in Japan’s so-called “suicide forest.”
