Dude, the show is meant to be kid-friendly, sexuality, any kind of sexuality, doesn't enter into it. Nothing about these characters is canon unless it's been run through Hasbro, everything else is speculation and not to be taken seriously.

So if you actually want to know the answer about RD's sexuality, I have it. She's neither, every single character in this series is, and will always be ASEXUAL. Stop acting like there's some sense to this discussion.

Just because it is implied that sex exists in this world doesn't mean that the characters have any sort of sexuality that can or ever should be expressed canonically. The dog from Tom and Jerry has a son, but you never need to know how he got it. (I could probably think of a better example if I tried.)

I AM talking canonically though, if people want to say Dashie's a lezbo I can't stop them, but no one can argue that it's anything but fanon.

But wouldn't be strange for teenage males to just talk about the events that happen in a show for little girls. It's the fandom and the fanon that are the reasons we (speaking as myself) love it.

If you don't think the show is good enough to warrant people discussing it's events then I don't think you're really a fan of the show.

This isn't the Sonic fandom, shouldn't you like the show for it's own merits and not because of the weird s**t the community pumps out? The fanon and community made stuff is just the icing on the cake.

Nope. I think the community is doing a pretty good job. While the majority of fanfictions aren't very good (something we should expect from a bunch of amateur writers), I find that most stories getting a 5-star or 6-star rating on Equestria Daily are pretty entertaining to read. I have a fairly open mind when it comes to fanfiction content, so I don't think the community is doing anything wrong by straying from the official canon, creating dark storylines or shipping characters.

While I'm on the topic of fanfiction, I read one yesterday called Spark that I'd like to recommend to any readers. It's from Avery Strange, the author of 'Kindness's Reward', and has a rating of 4.9/5. It does involve some TwiLuna shipping, but it's not overly shippy for the best part.

So here's my question… what governs the apparent sentientality of animals within the universe? All of them seem to be reasonably intelligent (Fluttershy can talk to most of them for example), but only ones with hooves (in addition to mythical creatures) seem to be able to actually talk. I was just curious if we have an explanation for that yet.

I'm guessing mythical creatures+ponies are sentient but any other animals are just smart versions of our own.

That doesn't explain the Buffalo and the Cows though.

I would hazard a guess that if you take all fanfiction (not just pony) on the internet, about 99% would be utter garbage.

It's just the way the world works I'm afraid. :(

But it seems to me that the only reason people write grimdark and shipping fics is because they can't accept the fact that the fandom revolves around a cartoon. So they write ridiculous fanfiction that paints the world with sex and violence because they can't overcome their own need for every aspect of their entertainment to be "mature". Ironically, the result is far less mature then the source material they feel isn't good enough.

Not to mention, romance and drama are some of the easiest forms of writing, comedy (good comedy) is infinitely more difficult.

tl;dr, what is everypony talking about? I dislike the lack of cute pictures.

Anyhow, I'm reading http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/09/story-u-harmony.html at the moment, it's actually pretty good. Comedy-shipping at it's best. :D
