So Steins;Gate is getting a sequel anime and VN.

Based on the teaser, people are saying that it will be based on the epigraph of a closed curve story, but that's not really a sequel. Its just a alternate timeline that doesn't follow the true ending to steins;Gate. I don't think it will. Epigraph is just one of the novels that will appear in the VN I think. I wouldn't mind an anime adaption of Epigraph, anything steins gate is golden, but that story is kind of a downer, at least what I have read so far since fan translations only go so far.

Is "My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU" worth watching? Because apparently it's popular and people are hyped over it.

(I don't really trust MAL, lots of conflicting opinions, especially in the anime fandom)

Another season, another set of shows which can't live up to the last season. There'd be more on this list if Funimation actually subbed their shows but oh well:

  • Seraph of the End/Owari no Seraph 3/5 – This show was okay I guess, super predictable and edgy, plus really not very engaging, but at least it was pretty. Will give a few episodes.
  • Shokugeki no Souma 2.5/5 – This show really wasn't that good, the orgasmic reactions were unfunny, awkward and dragged on way too long, plus it was pretty dull and predictable otherwise. It's pretty ugly looking too
  • Fate/ Stay Night 4.5/5 – It's ufotable's fate, not much to add
  • Plastic Memories 4.5/5 – This is the big surprise so far, on top of being a pretty show, it has a great premise (by the guy who wrote Steins; Gate). Looking forward to more of this.

Plastic Memories sounds pretty interesting. I'll definitely have to check that one out.

More shows:

  • Baby Steps 2 4.5/5 – It's more Baby Steps, which is still one of the best sports anime out there. Glad it's back
  • The disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan 3.5/5 – It's fanservicey as fuck, but it's mostly harmless. It can be pretty funny as well.
  • The Heroic Legend of Arslan 4/5 – The characters look like they're ripped straight out of FMA, and the CG is awful, but it's otherwise pretty entertaining
  • Blood Blockade Battlefront 3.5/5 – This was my most hyped show, and I wasn't disappointed. It was a little exposition heavy and the colour palate is a little bland, but it was still a lot of fun

As far as Nagato Yuki-Chan is concerned, would you recommend it to someone who's a fan of the original Haruhi series? I read a couple reviews and they said it really lacks a lot of the elements of the original series and apparently the characters even act totally different.

Nagato Yuki-chan is like a better version of Soul Eater NOT, it sucks all the creativity out of the original work and makes it just a slice of life, but at least Nagato is kinda funny and looks good (outside those character designs oh god). For the most part the characters are pretty much the same. Mikuru is still Mikuru, Tsuruya is still Tsuruya, and Kyon is still the best part of the show, just with a bit less of the cynical edge of the original. The two most different characters are Nagato, obviously, who's personality is changed to "generic moe blob goofball", and Asakura, who's a bit more comedically mean in personality, kinda similar to Tsuruya just not as hyperactive. If you ever saw the Haruhi-chan comedy short series (and if you haven't, you should), she's more similar to her personality in that.

If I were to recommend you the show, I'd have to ask you what you enjoy more from Haruhi, the character's personalities (Save Nagato herself) or the story. If you liked the story with it's supernatural elements and want more of that, you're dead out of luck, if you just want to see more of the same characters again, then you may end up enjoying it, since it's basically just taking all of the characters and putting them in a SOL Rom-Com. Unless of course, like I said, you like Nagato most, because she is nowhere near the same, she's entirely changed into a "lovable clutz" and is honestly the show's weakest link.

I'd say a Haruhi fan who just wants to see more of the characters should go right ahead, but someone who wants more of the supernatural stuff should really consider what I said before watching

I enjoyed the series mostly due to a combination of both character and supernatural elements, so I guess I should give this series a look at the very least.

I've never seen the Haruhi-chan short series though, I'll have to check that one out.

You know, just rewatched the first episode of Blood Blockade Battlefront, and I don't know what I was smoking the first time around, that show is 5/5. It's like supernatural baccano with a bit of Kill la Kill's over the top action in it. The show was very well directed, made by the person who also worked on Kyousougiga, which is another amazing show you need to make a point of watching. It remains engaging throughout, and it's interesting setting and characters certainly help with that. The voice acting is top notch as well, a lot of really good VAs were brought in for that. The jazz ost is what brought the show to my attention, it's pretty much one of 4 criteria to get a show immediately on my to watch list (incidentally, the others are "Be a KyoAni show", "Be a Brain's Base show" and "Have Hiroyuki Sawano composing"), and was exactly as good as the PVs made it out to be. Oh, and the show is gorgeously animated too, BONES did a stellar job on animation.

This is the standout show of the season for me. If you aren't watching this, Plastic Memories or Arslan, do yourself a favour and check them out.

Plastic memories made me feel and it was a nice first episode. 8.5/10.

Shokugeki was fine. Super over dramatized. Needs more erina, though. 11/10

SNAFU SNAFU SNAFU SNAFU. I can't believe it got a second season. Y-A-Y. First episode was nice, too. 9/10. Here is one of the reasons why should watch it.

FSN UBW. Shiet, first episode and we already got a super flustered Rin. Top Top Quality as always.

Owari no Seraph. People die if they are killed: the anime. Potential yaoi (?). Let's wait and see (???).

Nagato yuki-chan: pending to watch.

Kekai Sensen: pending to watch.

Also, friendly reminder. TRUMPET A BEST.

MORE SHOWS:

  • Sound Euphonium 3.5/5 – I was pleasantly surprised, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's still very typical laid back, but it has more direction than, say, K-On. Love the MC.
  • Gintama 4/5 – More Gintama. That opening scene almost killed me with laughter.
  • Ore Monogatari 4/5 – This show was way cuter than it had any right to be, this was super adorable and fun to watch
  • Punch Line 1.5/5 – Wut

I thought because I was having my wisdom teeth removed that I would be able to watch a ton of anime since I would be off work. Unfortunately Vicodin is a hell of a drug and I have just been sleeping or too dizzy to want to do anything. well, I at least have almost finished watching Sankarea, which is a pretty sweet anime and I have been watching Corpse Princess, a pretty entertaining "monster of the week show". Aside from Plastic Memories and UBW, I probably wont follow any shows. I will just catch up on ones I need to watch.

Jesus, they gave you vicodin for your wisdom teeth? All I got were some extra strength tylenol, and not even the kind with codeine.

Back on topic though, I watched the first episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan and although I'm not a big fan of the change in animation style I think it has a lot of potential. I'll definitely stick with it to see how it goes.

I also finished Nichijou and my god, that anime was fantastic all the way through. Probably some of the funniest and most adorable things I've ever seen in an anime.

It was probably because the teeth were located in an awkward position in my jawbone, especially the roots, so they had to break some pieces of the bone or something. The ones on top weren't a big deal though.

Anyways, cocoa fujiwara, the author of Inu x Boku, passed away unfortunately. I thought that was a very cute manga, and I was interested in reading her latest one. Rest in peace.

As you guys can probably tell from my avatar, I've picked RahXephon back up, this time with the intent to finish it. You guys should all watch it too if you haven't already; it's phenomenal. If you liked EVA, you'll like this.

Already called it. Trumpet girl best girl. Called it. She's mine. I want her. Give it to me.

Well Kekkai Sensen is pretty too

Kekkai Sensen is my "Everyone needs to see this and I will not rest until you all watch it" show of the season. Like damn this show is amazing, these Gifs don't even do the show justice

Side note, Zapp top husbando, Chain top waifu. Don't make me pick between them.

Let's not forget about PA Works.

Holy shit this turned into an art gallery fast.

There was a time when Gainax could, on a good day, do stuff way better than anything Kyoani or Ufotable puts out these days. Now all that talent is in hanging out with Trigger, and we only get to see it when they pull out their Little-Witch-Acadamia-tier big guns.

SPEAKING OF WHICH

Well, no I don't think so. Which isn't to say that I disagree with Gainax making awesome animation. Asukas fight against the MPE is still a favorite of mine.
Still, to say that they put out stuff "way better" than Ufotable? No way.

Woops, fixed.

HEY EVERYONE, POINT AND LAUGH AT HIM FOR CORRECTING A NON-EXISTENT ERROR!

Anyway though, have you watched Kara no Kyoukai yet? I suspect that's what the last gif is from but it's difficult to tell.

For some reason my brain needs a mental push to start watching an anime. The latest mental push resulted me in watching The Devil is a Part-Timer all the way through in one morning.

Apparently its not that hard since you are right. No I have not, but its on my must watch list. With amazing animation from Ufotable and coming from Type-Moon, how could I resist.

@Genry

They are great, but I still think that the fight scenes in Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/Zero are God Tier. Really, I was just saying their is no reason to say that what Gainax was putting out was "way better" than Ufotable. Also, the gifs you put up are from the theatrical release of Lagann-hen, while UBW and F/Z are TV shows. That really says a lot about ufotable.

And not to mention the fact that there were only a couple of points in TTGL whereas you could take literally any frame out of Fate/Zero, Unlimited Blade Works, and especially Kara no Kyoukai and turn it into a poster that you could hang up on a wall.

^
Just saying though, Gainax is the studio that made me fall in love with anime. Gurren Lagann is still in my top 5 of all time. I just want to give credit where credit is due. The people at Ufotable are doing some great work.

The thing about Gainax was that it would concentrate its budget really intensely into certain points and make really, really awesome stuff with that money even if the rest of the project was "only" pretty good. Also, the stuff I have seen by Ufotable would actually probably look best (or at least just as good) on a wall as a poster as it would animated on the screen, whereas Gainax's hyperkineticism would mean that it always looks best on the screen. Kyoani can also boast this with things like Nichijou.

So yeah, Plastic Memories. It's only the first episode and it already gave me feels. I have a feeling this one might rival Clannad: After Story for feeliest anime of all time.

Angel Beats still holds that top spot and it will be defeated by NOTHING (Except hopefully Charlotte I'm hype for that show)

I loved the first episode of plastic memories, but I don't like the romcom approach it's currently taking. I'd prefer them to get back to their job an go back to exploring other families rather than just the romance between the leads. Keep that for the side, the real meat should be the giftia collection.

Also weekly reminder, are you watching Kekkai Sensen? If no, stop what you are doing, go right to your nearest anime source, and get on that shit ASAP. Like you can't do anything until you watch it. That includes breathing. Best show of the season by several miles.

@Twenty One

I liked Angel beats, but I feel it was a little heavy handed in how it tried its damnedest to get an emotion out of you, especially with that twist ending that makes no sense. It was sad, but I can think of many others that made me sadder.

I've heard nothing but good things about Kekkai Sensen, so I will give it a watch.

So with the new season already in, time for an update that no one cares about

Baccano – Wow, what a great show. The dub was definitely worth watching for Baccano, and it was a pretty fun show. Also loved the way it jumped around different time and characters.

Patema Inverted (Movie) – Really pretty show. Cartoonish villain and absolute bullshit science aside, it wasn't that bad. Had a lot of really nice sceneries too.

This time, I going to watch some of this season stuff while it's airing, and probably try to catch up to some older stuff too.

Nisekoi S2 – It's Nisekoi. Don't think I have to say too much. Same humor, no progress, etc. Shaft is doing great adapting this.

Ninja Slayer – YEEEAART Trigger saved anime again. Gotta love it when they pull one of these stuff.

People complain a lot about Hibike! Euphonium. They say it's boring, uninteresting, etc.

Well you see, it's a fucking drama. Not an ecchi, not an action, it's a drama. You aren't going to see boobs flung right into your face, and you won't be seeing explosions and machine guns. It's high school. The central conflict is the characters are trying to find identity, if their passion really is important, who they really are and are capable of.

This is what makes these type of anime interesting. It may be slow to others, but the genre is aimed entirely at a different audience than what you may be used to. Respect that, realize that before commenting about how it's bad just because it doesn't appeal to your interest.

I agree 100%. I just watched episode three and it solidified Hibike! as possibly my favorite anime of the season. It's nice to take a break from all the sci-fi/fantasy anime and all the romances and comedies to watch something focused solely on the characters. The characters are all very unique and believable and I can totally empathize with how they feel, particularly the ones who want to take the concert band seriously despite the apathy of the majority.

I seriously can't wait to see more of it. Well done once again KyoAni.

Twenty-One wrote:

FOR GOD'S SAKE WATCH KEKKAI SENSEN

I did watch it, and it's certainly pretty great, but like I said, sometimes it's nice to just forget about all the sci-fi and fantasy and have a real world anime focusing on characters that you can relate to.

@Dac: I couldn't find an official sub anywhere so I had to settle for a low quality fan sub unfortunately. Still worth checking out though. I would describe it as Lovecraft meets Baccano meets Men In Black.

Also, I'm quickly loosing interest in Danmachi. After three episodes there's been next to no character development and it's absolutely riddled with cliches and boring characters. I'm gonna give it one more episode but if it doesn't blow me away then I'm dropping it.

Funimation has it, but since it's under there subscriber exclusivity, then fansubs it is. Also thank you crimea for adding some new examles to my Kekkai Comparison list. Currently I've seen people compare it to:
-Baccano
-Kill la Kill
-Trigun
-Kyousougiga
-Durarara
-Yozakura Quartet
-Cowboy Bebop
-FLCL
-Gintama
-Noragami
-Lovecraft
-Men in Black

Seriously, it feels like everyone has something different to compare it to. But I'm glad you saw it, I'll shut up now (Also Euphonium is great, and I'm surprised how much I enjoy it, but people who call it dull do have some ground to stand on. Ain't for everyone)

Oh right, one more comparison to add to your list is Deadman Wonderland, since the whole blood fighting technique is extremely reminiscent.

Meanwhile the new Kekkai episode was fucking awesome as per usual. I don't think there's any show as consistently flawless as that show is. Durarara better watch out because I may have a new favorite anime in the works.

Goddamn this show is too good. How is anything this good. Like seriously. How.
