It was a terrible series to begin with, books and all, so overly cliched to the point of ridiculousness, and now this shows studios that, no, splitting the final book in a series is not the best idea.
(There is of course the unfortunate promise of a spin-off series, but let's face it, it probably won't last long)

I guess the "dystopian teens fighting the government" genre's finally starting to dry up. Seems like it was burned through pretty fast.
Can't really say much about Divergent itself, as I've never read the books or watched the movies.
I volunteer part time at a hospital (because I'm awesome and deserve your praise) and things sometimes get a little boring in the transport office. There are some books and magazines in there, one of which was a copy of Divergence. I knew nothing about it going in, but thought it would be worth a try. It was alright. Somebody took it home after I got a hundred pages in. I might look up a copy at the library sometime.
I read the first two books. I should note I'm not too good at critically judging books, but I thought they were fine.
The third book though was horrible IMO, because it decides to suddenly change from just Tris' viewpoint to both Tris and Four, switching back and forth with little to really tell in the dialogue itself who is speaking and thinking. It got really confusing and I just couldn't handle it.
To be honest, I'm a bit sad about that, because I'm sure Veronica Roth put her heart into her work. To see bad reviews and being downgraded like that must hurt.
I watched the first movie. I thought it was OK, not incredibly good or bad, just OK.
My one problem with YA novels like Divergent (haven't read it but the movies were boring to me,) The Mazerunner (liked it) and Hunger Games (also liked it) is they're really devoid of humor. I said I liked some of them but characters cracking jokes every now and then would have livened up the mood.

It's not as worse as the Percy Jackson film series being cancelled after releasing only part one and two films.
Well, maybe it is because the directors here didn't get the chance to at least finish the whole film series and now this sort of thing is a let-down and a bit embarrassing to fans.
That's unfortunate. I've only seen the first movie and found it to be decent, so to see the series go down such a path is pretty sad.
