It's not backwards, but I have a fun example of a band using fun ways to hide messages in music.
Here's 5 seconds of The Great Destroyer. It sounds cacophonous and annoying to me, but this is just the left audio track in the song. The right audio track sounds the same. If you listen to the song normally with headphones, it sounds the same. There's a catch.

Here's what the song (and almost all music) normally looks like under close inspection. The wave forms of both tracks are almost identical.

Here's what the small couple seconds in the middle of the clip I just showed you look like instead. The wave forms are opposite each other.

They sound the same if you keep them isolated, but if you mix the tracks together the waves cancel each other. Here's what that sounds like.

The secret message you can hear was part of game Nine Inch Nails put on 10 years ago.
