The RAM leak still persist but I was able to determine the part where it occurs:
Whenever the comment section for the article loads, both Firefox and Opera start eating inordinate amount of RAM until the browser occupies all 14 available gigs of it, at which point the system just stops responding and has to be reset.
It seems that I will have to stop browsing the site until the issues are resolved.
