I seriously doubt the mods would delete genuine documentation of a meme. It would be so blatantly beyond the red line of what this site stands for that no moderator would dare. Now will the mods push their luck and lock another gallery…?

The better question is, will the mods correct when one of them inevitably makes that poor choice to lock yet another gallery for little to no good reason, or just sit back and watch what happens? This is somewhat funny and light-hearted as protest now, but another gallery lock would signal a shift toward censorship, and no one is going to approve of that.

Yeahhhhhhh, Epyc had a hard time moving on from KYM. He's been posting about it in different corners of the internet ever since his ban. From Twitter, to the Encyclopedia Dramatica Forums, to that wiki.

Epyc constantly treaded the line of doing enough to rile up the userbase, but not enough to actually get banned, constantly testing the mods' limits. This is why it took as long as it did for him to finally get banned.

Both, but I would change "mods at the time didn't like him" to "everyone at the time didn't like him." From what I remember of it, Ban #1 was a mod saying "Let's be real, no one here likes you." The ban was immediately revoked though. As a compromise, Don agreed to ban Epyc only from the forums (Ban #2) because he liked the contributions he was making in the entries. But this wouldn't last; I think Epyc move his behavior over to the entry comment sections, leading to commenters complaining to the mod team and staff this time around. Eventually he was banned for a legitimate reason (Ban #3).

This was around 2015~2017 (I don't remember exactly when he got banned, but I know it all started in the summer of 2015 and was gone by the summer of 2017).

As someone who was there to witness it, he was so goddamn annoying. I wanted to feel bad for him, but he was just too dense for me to do so.

In short, to quote a Star Wars-themed shitpost I made all those years ago:

You could be completely right about Epyc Wynn. I have seen a lot online so I have my doubts about all that especially since it relies on hearsay, but I at least like I could hear it directly from you since you say you were there. That being said, annoying sounds weak as fuck. Like if he was spamming and going out of his way to harass individuals then yeah fuck him. But annoying is so broad that could get anyone banned at least on paper.

Tbh, I was planning to make an entry for kaa anyway but all this drama around the shortstack entry. made me think it as the ideal opportunity to make one.
There was a need for that entry because it's one of the more (in)famous internet fetishes.
If i wasn't so lazy i think i would've posted that entry like 2 years ago when Jacob suggested it.

I also think that it's better for its own good that the shortstack gallery is locked. Galleries like those tend to be flooded with whatever the uploader is the most horny for and it's because of galleries like that this website has the reputation for "softcore porn gallery".

Sure we can post some examples but we don't need 500 pics of a thicc midget if we can do with a couple a dozen. I like shortstacks as much as the guy next door but can we please remind ourself that we're researching memes here?

This is not the first time this happened either. For example: there used to be the childhood ruined/enhanced galleries, while they were the most popular on the site, they were also very troublesome to maintain and eventually had to be locked because the gallery got too big.

I also don't think it's really fair to the mods and the staff that they get all this shit because they just want to keep a bit of order on this website. They're just doing their job. I think we are truly blessed with the freedom we have here compared to some other places that there are out there.

I fully respect you making the Kaa entry and your opinion on this matter, which has high importance since you made that entry that helped us users vent our frustrations on this matter in a roundabout way without it getting out of hand. Also a very important entry. Kaa is the hero we deserve.

I vehemently disagree with the notion we should feel grateful for this 'order' that just boils down to locking things people like because the people running the site don't like them. KnowYourMeme in part is used specifically because it has that softcore porn, so unless KnowYourMeme is taking notes from Tumblr, maybe it should not be so prudish. If anything normal porn should be allowed based on how well Reddit and Twitter do with it compared to how Tumblr does without it. On all counts it is a bad business decision to not allow it.

It is understandable to dislike porn. However, realistically, I cannot picture that you do not use Reddit or Twitter, and both have 100% nigh unfiltered porn. If this is truly a moderation problem perhaps we should not push for censorship but instead for new methods of moderating and coding that do not require locking galleries in order for the site to function.

TripleA9000 is making a reasonable, common sense argument we can just go to another site for softcore porn. People are uncomfortable with porn, even if it is softcore. It's a fair stance. Not everyone wants to see porn, not everyone wants to cater to everyone else. We are a memesite first and foremost.

However, which booru should I go to TripleA9000, the multi-billion-dollar one called Reddit or the other one called Twitter? TripleA9000 is just making a fair point we should just go to a booru instead of posting lewds on KnowYourMeme, and that is a point worth strong consideration. Why not just keep your booru shit off KnowYourMeme and go view it somewhere else? Most traditional boorus have website design just as good as KnowYourMeme's with just as varied of posting and discussion topics -right? Do we really want to have booru lewd content on a wiki-style forum/content aggregation site about memes? It sounds ridiculous.

On the other hand… I with utmost respect disagree with TripleA9000. As to why I disagree… I simply prefer this site's design and variety of topics, and would love to have even more varied topic options while preserving the user's ability to filter out those topics if they don't want to see them.

By booru site I mean like e621, paheal, any of the 1000 different booru sites created to cater to specific fetishes. You do not need to have something on the same site, you're not entitled to it.

The problem is, its not a matter of being uncomfortable with porn. I have a bunch of lewd images I've uploaded myself and truth be told, if the staff decided to allow hardcore porn, I wouldn't care all that much either. It has no real impact on my life or anyone else's life and thats what I take issue with. The userbase's sense of entitlement and just how much investment they put into this. If all my lewd images (hell if all my images in general) got removed right now I wouldn't care, because it doesn't matter.

It happened before. Back when KYM decided not to allow Nipples and Cameltoe anymore a bunch of my images got deleted. You wanna know how I reacted? Barely at all, because it wasn't worth reacting over. It didn't matter, it had no impact on my or anyone else's life. Liking the sites design and topics doesn't mean it has to cater to your wants and needs. If it does, cool, if it doesn't, who cares?

Throwing a fit over it (not necessarily saying you are just in general) just signals to me that you either A. Have a deep sense of entitlement or B. Have nothing else going on in your life. So the shortstack entry got locked down. Okay. So? So what actual impact does that have on your life? It doesn't.

If having a sense of community, variety of topics, and porn matters so much then why not just make a discord server, invite a bunch of like minded users, and create all the channels you want. And you won't have any jannies or mods telling you what you can and can't do. But this temper tantrum that everyone is throwing over this is kind of pathetic.

And as for the mod argument (you didn't necessarily make this argument but I feel its worth mentioning). Does random strangers on the internet being rude even warrant that much of a response. That kind of shit happens all the time on the internet. Again why does it matter? Why do you care?
