Big Youtubers talk about Youtube Drama

So Pewdiepie and Markiplier talked about Youtube Drama a few days ago:

And then KSI replied to both videos two days ago:

This all seems to be a chain reaction that had its root in the quarrel between h3h3 and leafy.

Now, since these guys have great influence on the internet, Youtube Drama will be a bigger, bigger topic if not already one.

For the time being, I'll just reserve my space in the theater

What do you guys think? Does any of them introduce any good point to make their speech about Youtube Drama?

Mark made some good points, but, in the bigger picture, all 3 of them are in the wrong.

Pewdiepie expects to defuse drama by being passive-aggresive about it (even typing "want to talk about drama without stirring any up" in the description, which is IMPOSSIBLE to do), Mark said too much and too little at the same time without arriving at much of a conclusion, and KSI is just in denial about it even though he is now a direct participant of it. But worse of all: the 3 of them just contributed to the drama, directly or indirectly.

Drama is like advertising: it thrives on people's attention. That is all it needs to be fueled. No approach is a good approach to address drama expecting it to go away. The only one I think is doing the right thing is Jacksepticeye, by just completely ignoring it and minding his own business (even with people asking him about said matters), effectively making his fans NOT focus on it, since the main thing you see in Pewdiepie, Markiplier and KSI's comments for their videos is people calling out names at each other and to drama channels, which has the exact opposite effect of what the videos intended to achieve.

It will not be long until this goes from "what is right and what is wrong" to "WHO is right and who is wrong", effectively being sucked in onto the drama and worsening everything for everyone.

Youtube lets what gets views get Promoted/ignore any wrongdoing (at least for while) .
Years ago was Newgrounds content, later reply girls, gaming channels, reaction Channels (like jinks), and now commenting on drama/criticize someone.

Keemstar is a sfw ED but let him be because he will exist until the interest in these type of "news"
fades out.

I personally think ReviewTech USA put it best by saying the only reason it has gotten so big is that we crave drama in general, and thats te reason Keemstar has gotten as big as he is.

Here's the video if people are intrested in the non-abridged version

KSI is a fucking moron straw man. Pewdiepie made that video addressing people who act like parasites like Keemstar who feed off of the drama and only elevate it. Pewdiepies video was not made to start drama or profit off of it.

Does this KSI guy serious think the guy with 44 million subs needs to jump into this drama shit for $monz$? He could have easily made a video of him screaming at some video game and make just as much money as his Youtube drama video. Its funny how KSI's video only proved pewdiepies point. The guy wasn't attacking anyone specifically or trying to start shit but this KSI guy came in so he could elevate the bullshit and now the youtube community wont shut the fuck up about it and keemstar sits on his pile of money eating pop corn.

And you know what Mark and Pewdiepie are fucking right. Im so sick of this bullshit. Every week there is some new scandal that fills up my god damn suggestions and sub box just so these youtubers can get clicks. It doesn't even take much to set these parasite channels off anymore. The poor Toby guy got the spot light shined on because some girl made a random Tumbler post with hardly any proof and that was enough to set off the whole youtube community. For what? So everyone can just echo the same opinion over and over again.

Its fucking obnoxious

Phillip De Franco talked about the three videos, explaining and commenting each's point of view:

I totally agree with you there, KSI's talk about both Pewdiepie and Markiplier's videos was stupid and seemed as redundant as both's videos according to his own words.

Seems like his video title wasn't as sarcastic as it was meant to be.

Also, roasted:

Yes, he made more valid points than anyone else and that life-to-YouTube analogy is on point…… but again: drama = advertising. All his points and intentions will be meaningless in the long run: he has just fed the drama further.

The truth is: drama has already become too big on YouTube to do anything about it. More people than they care to admit like drama. There is a huge demand. For damn certain there will be a huge supply of it, then. Yes, it is stupid, it is flawed and nobody feels anything positive about the matter… but drama is, for most people, too adictive and attractive to pass on.

Basically, if drama was food, it would be junk food: you very well know it is absolutely not good for you, but you consume it anyway, because you like it. And junk food is more popular than healthy food… so it stands to reason that drama will overtake entertainment sooner or later.

Well, he pretty much nailed it. Best argument so far indeed. Yes, he fed the drama also, but at LEAST he acknowledges it and is OK with it.

Probably a little nihilistic, but also very realistic and, overall, neutral, and saying it how it is. I doubt anything more clever can be said on the matter.

Oh, and Pewdiepie actually commented on the video:

I usually keep my rant videos brief, but maybe I was a bit too quick on this one.
I realize first of all I shouldve been more clear on a few things:
I didnt make my video to "fight drama" I know its always going to be there, obviously.
I made the video to take a stance against ruining people's lives over allegations and using the internet hate mob as some sort of police for justice.

All of this lies in the heart of drama.
But what I realize now after making the video is that we're all part of it, especially if you talk about it.

fuck it, can only lose, memestar wins.

So yep, even he acknowledges the sad, nihilistic truth of the situation and the mistake he made… It cannot be helped.

@KYFPMM

It was great to finally see Grade cleaning house on this because I was really getting tired of the "yootub is changing but I dunno what to do lol XD" bullshit myself. Telling people to focus on producing their own content is easily the best solution anyone has offered to this yet.

So now, DSP was shown jerking off in a stream one time which was also reported by DJ Keemstar. Surprisingly enough, DSP took the entire thing well.

I've only watched part of GradeA's video thus far (up to where he said Santoro plagiarizes), but I feel like he went too far with Markiplier.

Now, some of his criticisms are legitimate, like how rambly and vague Mark's video was, or the more subscribers means more understanding argument. Others, though, show his lack of understanding about Markiplier.

For example – Markimoo. That's basically his community-assigned nick name. It's not something he pulled out of his ass. His fan base loves to call him that.

The other thing I had a major objection to is how he basically insisted he was an idiot, and called him a retard multiple times over. He was, before he got popular on YouTube, going to become an engineer. I'm pretty sure you have to be above retard levels of intelligence to have a shot at that, and by how Markiplier acts when it comes up he really does. This was shown during one let's play he did of a game – don't remember the name, it was about bridge construction – and how he flew through it with relative ease, and remembered a lot about engineering. He nerded out for a good portion of that series, because he was in his element.

On the more subjective side of things, I felt Mark's video was more of a vent kinda of thing than anything else. That's just me though, and I might be wrong there, but it'd explain the disorganization and lack of scripting. He occasionally makes videos like that when he has something on his mind.

I was watching the livestream when he said he would. He said he would dye his hair pink it they donated enough to charity. They didn't reach the goal, but it was due to technical issues. Since they nearly certainly would have exceeded the goal if it wasn't for the site glitching up, Mark dyed his hair pink nonetheless. After it started wearing off, though, he decided to dye it again, a different color, since he liked it.

Because it was caused by a charity livestream, but also was kept because he liked it, I think it's a point up for debate. It does show again, though, that GradeA doesn't really know who he's talking about, since he failed to mention that.

Going Ad Hominem on people you do not even know is the ultimate way of proving you have nothing useful to say or contribute, and he did go Ad Hominem on Mark and others. He just jumped the bandwagon for the hell of it (and monetised the video, I bet). At least Mark just spoke his mind before anyone else with no big intentions at all. It is everyone ELSE who is making it look like he wants to "make Youtube great again", when in truth, he just gave an opinion and expected nobody outside his fanbase to watch the video, VERY unlike others who are clearly capitalizing on the moment.

IHE said it much better, without having to step on others to make a point, and even Pewdiepie took his word. Ironic, coming from him, but that is how it goes.

You could very easily assert that anyone who made a video on the drama was just trying to cash in on it though. In fact that's what I thought Mark and the others were doing in the first place because of how phoned in their videos on it are.

Also I actually pointed out how he did contribute something. In addition to offering a solution there was also the bit about Santoro's plagiarism, which seems to have been apparent for some time but has somehow slipped under the radar at large until now.

This is a thing I feel should have a proper terminology assigned to it. It's already too big to just not give it a name, and giving it a name won't give it much less power then it already has. "drama" doesn't really cover the type of fervent and intense spreading this does, jumping from one channel to another like a disease being passed along to everyone.

Trickle-Down Attention-Grabbing is what I think is a good term for it. Bigger channels react to something, and small channels then make reactions of their own to it in order to get the views, and the views trickle down from there as the smaller and smaller channels hop on board.

Chain-Letter-Commenting could work as well, as like a chain letter this subject just gets passed around from one person to the next, building a bigger and bigger chain of videos to itself.

GradeAUnderA take on this

-People stop talking about this shit for a week now
-Grade makes a video about it
-Says hes not a big drama channel, tries to stay out of drama
-"-People stop talking about this shit for a week now" makes a video anyway, ok fine hes wants to put his two cents in and is tying to defend himself
-Calls pewdiepie a hypocrite for calling out drama but then pewdiepie gets into drama anyway
-wat
-If hes a hypocrite then so aren't you for making a drama video with major click bait then calling someone a retard trying to be antagonizing but then saying you are trying to say away from it?

Ok I don't know it sucks that Grade according to him is being targeted for attacks. Its mostly Keemstar thats the fucking problem. Keemstar brings up petty bullshit and some times turns non issues into giant news stories or escalates shit higher then they were before he grabs his pop corn. For the most part grads "drama" videos have a point to them other then that shit.

But come on dude, everyone already forgot about this shit by now until you brought it up again. You didn't have to get that defensive about it to the point of calling mark a retard.

But you know, fuck it the over watch beta is coming out in a few minutes so I don't have to deal with looking at this shit for the next two days and he will go back to making funny videos on Sunday.

ImmortalHD made a video a while back where he makes an interesting point on this subject. However, I don't agree with him saying that Youtube videos don't hurt people in any way.

Last edited May 02, 2016 at 07:28PM EDT

So this is how it is going to be, huh..? Everyone takes a turn in the spotlight, everyone vents some comments here and there, then the subject is completely forgotten. Farandula at its prime.

The only one who seems to be doing the right thing is jacksepticeye by just completely staying away from the shitstorm despite knowing it is there, even though he WAS mentioned once or twice in other videos on a bad light.

Copypaste from another thread:

The section on Mark felt like he was basically resorting to schoolyard bully insults. “This guy dyes his hair and acts silly sometimes, so that means he’s a fucking retard!”

Seriously I expected better from Grade since 1) I don’t think the guy who uses purposely shitty MS Paint art to represent his “image” and never shows his true face is one to talk about another person’s outer appearance, and 2) for someone who says he used to be a professor he sure failed to do his research. Mark dyes his hair to honor the memory of a friend who committed suicide, because dying his hair for charity was one of the last things Mark and said friend did together, and second off the “MarkiMoo” nickname is a fan given nickname, Mark only says it because the fans started it and he thinks it’s amusing.

Well after watching GradeA's video, I instantly unsubscribed and unfollowed Matthew Santoro on pretty much everything.

But to the point: I think he described the whole situation perfectly and he's the person you should listen to about this situation. He especially nailed Markiplier's part saying that his video was a mess, he should have taken this thing more seriously and not try to be a funny maymay man.

But that's just my opinion.

KYFPMM wrote:

Philip de Franco 's video

Some of the responses to that video were great.
Here were the top two (while logged into my own account):

Also, drama's not really my thing, so I generally ignore it.
Don't get me wrong, valuable insights or changes can potentially occur as a result of it, and the line between drama and news is hard to pin down, so I don't really go out of my way to condemn it.
On the other hand, drama seems to have a penchant for being petty and inefficient, not to mention the "casualties" it can sometimes leave in it's wake, so I don't really encourage it either.
In my opinion, drama is complex, powerful, mostly pointless but occasionally profound.
So far, I've found the only move that will most likely minimize your losses is to choose not to play.

Surprisingly true.

Mark dyes his hair to honor the memory of a friend who committed suicide, because dying his hair for charity was one of the last things Mark and said friend did together

Didn't know that. Have a source? If it's true, then that makes Grade look even more like an ass.

Speaking of which, his subreddit is tearing him apart. So many threads were made they ended up making a megathread for the issue. People are not happy about Grade's behavior.

Grade makes good points, including with Markiplier, especially he does make a fair point with Mark's video being pretty terrible – it being a rant doesn't excuse it's quality honestly, it's all rambles and diluted. However he criticized more about Mark's appearance and how "retarded" he is rather then his points.

Goddamn… Guys, I just realized that we are doing EXACTLY what YouTubers are doing: being caught on the drama hype spiral and giving it more attention.

For as much as I like reading the responses and insights here, I think I will unsubscribe from this thread now… I do not want to be an indirect contributor to all of this mess. In the same way that "ironic shitposting is still shitposting", neutral and objective talk about drama STILL feeds drama. So, I am signing out now.

Copypaste from my thread before I knew about this thread:
I personally felt that while his comments on the actual videos themselves were fair and I agreed with them, he was too harsh with his insults and it came off to me as more of him being mean and getting personal, especially to Markiplier. The comments calling him a retard and making fun of his hairstyle felt uncalled for. I felt that, while Mark’s video was a mess, he had good intentions when he made it and that is something that should be taken into consideration when responding to it. However, I totally agree with his opinions on plagiarism.

You know what, I figured out why this shit bugs me so much (other then people legitimizing what is most likely a false rape allegations) Watching these grown ass men argue about the most petty bullshit in the world makes me cringe. These people make 100k- some times a million yearly and never have to work a traditional job for the rest of their life making Youtube videos are all arguing over some of the dumbest most childish petty crap. Now we have these fucking man children fighting each other on a fucking weekly bases knowing full well their impressionable fans will go after what ever they are targeting while keemstar instigates everything and eating pop corn.

I like grade A and I like H3H3 so im just gonna pretend like this shit isn't happening anymore because I can't fucking stand watching all these grown ass men doing the funnest job in the world yet some get in the middle of these stupid ass conflicts and make the site fucking miserable to be on.

Thank Christ we still have dank ass youtubers like Filthy Frank, and big money saliva who know how to make drama entertaining without getting petty about it.

I still forgive Pewdiepie for his original video because other than Keemstar it wasn't a direct attack on anyone he was just talking about the topic but it was KSI, Grade A and the 100s of other people who elevated the situation and made it into a personal attack.

Sadly for him he kind of proved the point in his video by ironically turning into this weeks drama topic.

Still doesn't take away from the convoluted mess that was Mark's video.

And yeah, with how Grade is so finicky with his identity, I wouldn't be surprised if he was just a bunch of squirrels in a skin suit.

Grade asked a mod on his sub Reddit to delete a thread that was criticizing him, and the mod decided to make the private message public as she didn't like that Grade was asking her to silence criticism. He then proceeded to call the mod (who's a 16 year old girl by the way) a "bitch" and a "whore" during a livestream.

He also keeps defending Keemstar in spite of Keemstar being exposed as a rat and a generally unlikable person, saying it's because Keemstar offered him a six figure money deal.

Soon GradeA, Keem, Leafy, and SkyWilliams will do a podcast in "MemeChat".
Heres the problem.

Leafy is a cyberbully cunt that makes fun of innocent people so his fans can go witch hunt.
Keem is the most sensitive man in Twitter that cares about money, betrays Scarce, and sends his fans on a witch hunt.
GradeA is a straight-up douchbag, he never apologize even ONCE, called a 16 year-old girl a "whore", never listens to his fans in subreddit, and sends his fans on a witch hunt.

Sky Williams? I have no idea why he's getting involved with it

And it really bothers me how they put the word "meme" to MemeChat. like they own the word "meme".
