About

12-3-30 Workout, also known as the TikTok Treadmill Trend, is a TikTok fitness trend for losing weight via working out with a treadmill. The main idea behind it is to simply set the incline to 12, the speed of the treadmill to 3 and then maintain that for over 30 minutes, multiple times per week, with results supposedly promised within a month or two. Since its inception in 2020, the trend has continued to grow throughout the early 2020s as more TikToks are made showcasing the before-and-after benefits of using it.

Origin

On November 11th, 2020, TikToker and content creator Lauren Giraldo[1] uploaded a picture from her past noting when she looked 20 pounds heavier before detailing the workout plan that helped her lose the weight and keep it off, referring to it as the "12-3-30 plan." Her explanation and results helped kickstart the trend, with the initial video gaining over 2.7 million likes and 12 million views in two years (shown below).

Spread

Since Lauren Giraldo began showcasing the workout plan in late 2020, testimonials began to flock in after others tried out the plan and felt that it worked well for them, resulting in the 12-3-30 workout spreading across TikTok. For example, on March 1st, 2021, the health and fitness TikToker Happy&HealthyOlivia[2] included the 12-3-30 plan in a series called "TikTok Health Trends that ACTUALLY work," explaining how to set the treadmill and that it truly does work well for its goals, earning over 700,000 likes in one year (shown below).
