2023 Brazilian Carnival refers to an annual traditional Brazilian celebration that occurs every Tuesday before “Ash Wednesday” and the upcoming date falls on February 21st. The carnival is marked by colorful costumes, samba music and generates a series of viral videos and memes on social media.

As the Brazilian carnival festivities began in February 2023[2], the creative costumes and moments started to go viral on Twitter and other social medias. The twitter meme page @rolealeatorio[3] shared a chaotic moment during a street party on February 19th, 2023. The post received 942,000 views and 26,900 likes in one day.

Thousands of Brazilians wore a costume inspired in the Shakira vs. Piqué[4] divorce, in which she discovered that his partner was unfaithful when she noticed an eaten jelly in her fridge. Twitter user @annavirginia[5] captured a Brazilian in the metro station on February 12th, 2023, wearing the jelly costume. The post garnered 55,200 likes and 4,600 retweets in one week.

Another viral moment was captured inside Rio de Janeiro’s metro station on February 19th, 2023, showing a group of people singing the kids song “Baby Shark” to a baby. Posted by @mvfernandes23[6], the video garnered 2,4 million views and 144,000 likes in one day.
