The "90s Sitcom When" TikTok Trend is a series of memes on TikTok in which users act out a stereotypical dramatic scenario that might happen in a 1990s sitcom punctuated by the use of a dramatic musical sting from Family Matters. The first instance of the meme appeared on TikTok in July 2023 and was popularized on the platform in June 2024.
Origin
On July 1st, 2023, TikToker[1] @darealtaah posted a comedy skit using a musical sting from a '90s sitcom captioned, "90s sitcom: the main antagonist was under the table the whole time and heard y'all whole plan," garnering over 2.8 million views in a year (shown below, left).
On April 9th, 2024, TikToker[2] @csapunch posted a similar video using the same song under the caption, "90s sitcom when the little sister was hiding and overheard the whole plan," garnering over 2.5 million views in three months (shown below, right).

On April 19th, TikToker[3] @fitdadceo posted a similar video, directly inspired by @csapunch, using a dramatic '90s sitcom stinger that is used in the sitcom Family Matters when something dramatic occurs,[4] garnering over 700,000 views in three months (shown below). This sound would become the main subject of the trend going forward.

The trend became notably popularized throughout June 2024. On June 25th, 2024, TikToker[5] @davidbookwormpopovich posted a version of the meme about the nerd finding out the cheerleader only used him for a good test score, garnering over 5.1 million views in six days (shown below, left).
On June 26th, TikToker[6] @bessapella posted a version of the meme that gained over 9.7 million views in five days (shown below, right).

On June 27th, 2024, TikToker[7] @camdrawsbeep posted a version of the meme captioned, "90s sitcom when it's revealed that the cool kid / bully has feelings," garnering over 1.2 million views in four days (shown below). On June 30th, X[8] user @HogfarmerChris posted a version of the meme that garnered over 300 likes in a day.
