According to My Calculations… refers to a snowclone and exploitable popular on Twitter in which people write "according to my calculations…" then create an ASCII Art calculator with a point or opinion on the "screen." The snowclone has also been used with symbols to make what looks like a math problem, with a similar point or opinion in the answer section.

Origin

The snowclone started appearing on Twitter in the summer of 2016. One of the earliest tweets using it appeared on July 21st, 2016, posted by @AidanCC^[1] and gaining over 200 retweets and 300 likes (shown below).

Spread

Over the following four years, the snowclone appeared both with the ASCII calculator and with a series of symbols that made what appeared to be a complicated math problem. Of the latter, popular tweets include one by @RiceGum,^[2] which gained over 4,900 retweets and 24,000 likes (shown below, left). User @rtkink^[3] gained over 1,000 retweets and 1,200 likes with their darker tweet (shown below, right).

The calculator version of the snowclone endured for longer, and was covered by Mashable in April of 2019.^[4] Popular examples from that month include an April 7th, 2019 tweet by @GrossmanMax^[5] that gained over 340 retweets and 3,400 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @13alltooswiftie^[6] gained over 490 retweets and 1,800 likes (shown below, right).
