Part of a series on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. [View Related Entries]

About

Ahsoka Tano is a character from the Star Wars franchise, appearing for the first time in the movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the related television show. Since her inception into the Star Wars universe, she has gone on to be a fan-favorite character, often featured in multiple fan arts and memes within the prequel meme genre. Ahsoka later appeared in the animated TV show Star Wars Rebels, and in 2019, she made a live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian, portrayed by Rosario Dawson. In 2020, it was announced that Dawson will return to play Ahsoka in a limited series titled Ahsoka on Disney+.

Origin

Released on August 15th, 2008, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was a feature film that took place between the greater Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith movies. Ahsoka is visible in some of the shots from the various commercials and trailers for the movie. On March 9th, 2017, the YouTube[1] channel Analog Memories uploaded a video of one of the commercials that showed Ahsoka Tano facing off with Asajj Ventress, earning 11,600 views in four years (shown below)

The scene where Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first meet Ahsoka was also uploaded to YouTube[2] by the channel Voca Productions on November 25th, 2016, earning 490,000 views in five years (shown below).

Spread

Following the film, the character would go on to be featured within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television show, which went on for seven seasons between 2008-2020. The series takes place over a three-year period and shows Ahsoka's growth as a Jedi as she gained a different, more mature art style in later episodes. This difference is best seen in the timeline uploaded to the /r/starwarscanon/[3] subreddit on February 20th, 2020, by Redditor[4] Plawsky (shown below).

One of the most prominent and continuing memes about Ahsoka is a reference to her quitting the Jedi order and becoming a citizen. This meme format takes quotes and references from around Star Wars canon and applies Ahsoka Tano's citizenship status to them, illustrated in a meme uploaded to the /r/prequelmemes[5] subreddit by Redditor[6] BarryBenson77, earning 52,000 upvotes in five months (shown below).

When gone am I, the last of the jedi, you will be... But, master, what about Ahsoka Tano? Citizen Tano, you mean?

She's been legitimately one of the most interesting characters in all of media to see progress and evolve over the past decade-plus, considering how most people assumed she'd be dead before Episode III when her existence was first announced. It's amazing how far she's come.
