About

“How Many Other Lies Have I Been Told By The Council?” is a memorable quote said by Anakin Skywalker in the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Online, the phrase has been used as a reaction image in posts from a poster exaggerating their disgust at learning something they believed was false.

Origin

On February 10th, 2012, the episode Crisis on Naboo aired on television.[1] It is the conclusion of a four-episode storyline arc where Obi-Wan Kenobi faked his death and disguised himself as a bounty hunter called Rako Hardeen in order to thwart a plot by Count Dooku. Anakin Skywalker was unaware of the mission per the request of Obi-Wan as he felt Anakin's reaction to his death needed to be genuine in order to deceive Count Dooku. When Anakin learns of this, he confronts Obi-Wan and demands to know if the Jedi Council had told him any other lies (shown below).[2]

The earliest use of the scene being used as a meme was posted on May 8th, 2017 by Reddit user SupremeLeaderMatt[3] on /r/PrequelMemes where it received 127 points (99% upvoted) (shown below)
