AOC Is Not Your Friend refers to a snowclone which grew popular on Twitter after user @ohJuliatweets made a post sniping at podcasts who criticize congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from the left. The snowclone will start with "AOC is not your friend" before adding a humorous rejoinder.

Origin

On February 7th, 2021, Twitter^[1] user @ohJuliatweets posted, "'AOC is not your friend,' yeah babe well neither are podcast hosts who make six figures on Patreon doing audio shitposting," gaining over 13,000 retweets and 190,000 likes (shown below). While she does not make explicit which podcast hosts she was referring to, it is assumed she is referring to leftist podcasts who will sometimes critique AOC's performance as a congresswoman, such as Chapo Trap House, Red Scare and Cum Town.^[2]

After @ohJuliatweets' tweet, users on Twitter began parodying it as a snowclone, writing "AOC is not your friend," then adding a punchline. For example, user @KylePlantEmoji^[3] tweeted, "AOC is not your friend. Bernie Sanders is not your friend. The employee who watches the self checkout line at target is not your friend. No one is your friend. You are a deeply unpleasant person to know," gaining over 290 retweets and 4,300 likes (shown below, left). User @IslamaphobiaCow^[4] tweeted, "AOC is not your friend. neither are podcasters. Allah on the other hand is always there for you. come my dear, let me show you the light," gaining over 60 retweets and 880 likes (shown below, right).

Others made jokes riffing on the idea that AOC was a classmate in school. For example, user @scotchfields^[5] wrote, "'AOC is not your friend,' no actually she is! we pass each other notes in honors biology and compare waist sizes" (shown below, left). User @personallyrich^[6] wrote, "AOC is NOT your friend. She said she was inviting me to her Pool Party but her mom told my mom it had happened last week actually," gaining over 210 likes (shown below, right).
