Overview

AOC's Among Us Twitch Stream refers to a Get Out The Vote event organized by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) in which she, fellow congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and several popular streamers and YouTubers played Among Us on Twitch. The stream became one of the most-watched Twitch streams in the site's history, peaking at roughly 435,000 streams.

Background

On October 19th, 2020, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that she was looking for people interested in streaming Among Us with her on Twitch to get out the vote.^[1] Her tweet gained over 28,000 retweets and 392,000 likes.

After her call to action, multiple popular YouTubers, including Pokimane, hbomberguy, Disguised Toast, JackSepticEye, DrLupo, HasanAbi, and congresswoman Ilhan Omar voiced their interest in joining the stream.

Developments

The Among Us stream commenced on October 20th, 2020 (full stream shown below). Throughout the stream, popular streamers and YouTubers joined the game.

On AOC's channel alone, the stream peaked at around 435,000 viewers, making it the third most-watched stream in Twitch history.^[2] Throughout the stream, the players involved were tweeting their reactions, particularly when they had to kill AOC or AOC killed them. Notable moments include when hbomberguy killed AOC and she recalled when she appeared on his Donkey Kong 64 100% Stream (shown below, top) and when AOC killed Pokimane (shown below, bottom).

The stream led to multiple jokes on Twitter parodying the content of the stream and the bizarreness of a politician streaming a video game on Twitch. User @Fobwashed posted a Roundabout meme of the moment hbomberguy killed AOC, gaining over 4,600 retweets and 22,000 likes (shown below, top). User @TECHN0PAIN tweeted an AOC fancam which was viewed over 1 million times on Twitter (shown below, bottom).
