AOC Tying Her Hair, also known as AOC Ponytail, refers to a screenshot of United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tying her hair back with a hair tie into a ponytail. The image macro is typically used in memes accompanied by captions that are related to AOC discovering something new about the viewer, prompting oral sex. The screenshot comes from an early 2021 Instagram Live that was posted to YouTube shortly after.
Origin
On January 12th, 2021, AOC went Live on Instagram to talk about the January 6th storming of the U.S. Capitol. Within the first minute of the livestream, AOC tied her hair back into a ponytail, which remained intact for the rest of the video. The next day, on January 13th, AOC uploaded the full recording of the Live to YouTube, earning roughly 190,100 views over the course of a year and a half (shown below).
On January 14th, 2021, Twitter[1] user Rekt_Tekashi tweeted a reply to one of AOC's tweets about photoshopped screenshots that had been circulating in regards to her. Rekt_Tekashi's reply attached a screenshot of AOC tying her hair back, captioning it, "what about this one," earning over 150 likes in a year and a half (shown below).

On January 19th, 2021, a meme was shared to /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial[2] that used AOC tying her hair back (shown below, left). It was originally made by Twitter[3] user Ramlover69, however, the tweet has since been deleted. A blank template was added to imgflip[4] in mid-2021, which received memes going into the end of the year. For instance, a meme[5] posted by imgflip user SanjaySinghNegi used Impact font to say, "When She Finds Out You Use $PLTR Stock" (shown below, right).
On February 20th, 2021, the image was posted to 4chan's /ck/[6] imageboard (shown below). On July 29th, 2021, the image was posted to 4chan's /pol/ [7] imageboard.
In December 2021, the image was used in memes en masse on platforms like Twitter and Reddit. On December 20th, 2021, Twitter[8] user jangocantmiss captioned it, "'Oh so you listen to NBA Youngboy,'" earning roughly 1,100 likes in five months (shown below, left). On December 23rd, 2021, Redditor ashent2 posted a meme to /r/dankmemes,[9] captioning it, "POV: You just tweeted something woke," earning roughly 14,000 upvotes in five months (shown below, right).
