Applaud My Supreme Power! is a catchphrase first used by the character Momonga in the 2018 Japanese animated television series Overlord III, based on the light novel series by Kugane Maruyama.
Origin
On September 25th, 2018, the episode, entitled "大虐殺" ("Massacre"),[1] featuring the line being used aired in Japan (shown below).
On September 27th, 2018, Redditor Embyrwatch uploaded the first known use of the quote in an image macro to r/overlord. (shown below). The post received 767 points in 10 months.[4]
Spread
On October 2nd, 2018, Redditor Troll_Dovahdoge uploaded a reaction image of Momonga featuring the catchphrase to r/me_irl which gained 14 points (80% upvoted) four months (shown below).[2]
On November 16th, Redditor The1stMemeDealer[3] uploaded a no nut November meme to r/dankmemes which acquired 35 points (98% upvoted) in three months (shown below).
On December 6th, Redditor ryzikx commented the catchphrase when posting a meme to r/overlord (shown below, left). The catchphrase began to be used in a self-congratulatory or sarcastic way. On December 24th, the catchphrase was then used by Redditor when posting a meme to r/memes (shown below, right).
