Banda Takitá's Performance refers to a 2015 video of the Brazilian singer Paulinha Lopes doing a performance on a local TV show. At the time, she was the lead singer of the music group Banda Takitá. The video, which received 26.9 million views in one month, showed many odd facial expressions from Lopes, with clips and images of this becoming reaction memes on Twitter in 2023.


On October 15th, 2015, the official YouTube[1] channel for the local TV show Tarde Legal uploaded the performance of Banda Takitá.[2] The video has had 36,178 views and 1,800 likes in seven years (seen below).

Years later, the Twitter[3] page @acervim, which is dedicated to sharing old memes and viral videos, reposted Banda Takitá's performance on January 15th, 2023, but only the first 15 seconds in which the lead singer Paulinha Lopes is not singing, but making funny facial expressions as the song begins. In less than a month, the video garnered 26.9 million views and 4,406 retweets (seen below).


The video quickly gained virality on Twitter as users started to retweet the presentation as a reaction meme. Twitter[4] user @cackito_ posted a video of his feed on February 5th, 2023, showing several tweets using the Banda Takitá meme. The post received 118 views and 3 likes in three days (seen below).

After the viral success of the video, the lead singer Paulinha Lopes was invited by the Brazilian Twitter[5] account of Burger King to recreate her funny facial expression while eating a burger. The ad received 460,400 views and 13,400 likes in three days (seen below).

Less than a day after the 65th annual Grammy ceremony, people had already edited Paulinha Lopes' video alongside a Beyoncé reaction video. Twitter[6] user @pedro_mqs shared the video on February 6th, 2023 with the caption "I can't believe this video exists." The post received 912,500 views and 42,200 likes in a day (seen below).
