Beaning, not to be confused with Beaned, refers to the practice of dumping cans of beans on someone's property, similar to pranks such as egging and 'TP-ing.' The trend, which also goes by the name #BeanBandits, took off in the UK in 2021 and appeared to grow popular through TikTok, eventually leading to the British police issuing a warning to local residents about the trend.

Origin

On April 18th, 2021, the TikTok account @bean.bandits posted their first video, showing a group of teenagers dumping beans at someone's front door. The video gained over 1 million views and 201,000 likes (shown below).

The trend became popular enough in the UK that on August 13th, 2021, the Surrey Police Facebook page[1] uploaded a post warning residents about the beaning pranks and to report suspicious behavior (shown below). The post eventually caught the attention of multiple news outlets, including The Guardian,[2] Today,[3] and Food and Wine.[4]
