Best Buy iPhone TikTok Accounts and Apple Store iPhone TikTok Accounts refers to accounts made by customers at Best Buy or Apple stores whose videos go viral and are never touched again. The phenomenon started in late 2022 with more accounts adding to the lore in 2022.

Origin

On October 16th, 2021, the TikTok^[1] account bestbuyphonetiktok posted a video. The anonymous admin wrote in text overlay, "Made a TikTok on a Best Buy phone," and over the course of 11 months, it received over 1,000 plays (shown below, left). Six days later, on October 22nd, 2021, the TikTok^[2] account bestbuyphone00 posted a similar video, gaining roughly 1.8 million plays and 199,500 likes in the same time period and notably popularizing the idea (shown below, right).

Spread

The idea was replicated in 2022 by other anonymous TikTokers. For instance, on July 3rd, 2022, TikToker^[3] zombiziz made a TikTok on an Apple store phone, gaining roughly 2.6 million plays and 291,100 likes in two months (shown below, left). On September 3rd, 2022, TikToker^[4] bestbuyphone211 posted a video from a Best Buy phone, gaining roughly 18.1 million plays and 3.1 million likes in three weeks (shown below, right).
