About

Big Forehead Fish refers to a specific video of an Asian sheepshead wrasse (also known as Kobudai or Chrysoblephus gibbiceps) seemingly trying to look at or interrupt a scuba diver who's breaking open a shell. The fish wanted to eat what was inside but, to the viewer, came off as nosy or annoying when seen through a human's perspective. The video gained viral engagement on Twitter/X in May 2023, gaining over 100 million views in a short timeframe. In turn, many made memes with the fish, referencing the animal and its viral video months later, most often ironically as a way to humorously belittle other content on the app that received less than 100 million views. In the comparison, meme creators could diminish the importance of a seemingly important tweet by contrasting it with the silly fish that went more viral.
