About

Birds for Some Reason is a viral video uploaded by YouTuber and cartoonist Avocado Animations in early May 2026. Posed as a parody of courtship dance rituals from various species of birds, it quickly became a viral phenomenon on the video-sharing site and other social media platforms over the following weeks, leading to more parodies, memes and a dance trend inspired by the animation.

Origins

On May 8th, 2026, YouTuber[1] Avocado Animations, a YouTube channel already well-known for its Velma Meets the Original Cast Parody video that inspired memes, uploaded a short video, titled "birds for some reason," featuring two seemingly rival male birds dancing to Michael Jackson's "Chicago" in an effort to seduce a female one, with a twist at the end.

The upload garnered roughly 21.5 million views, 1.4 million likes and 38,000 comments in just over a month.

Avocado Animations also posted the animation to their X / Twitter[8] account (AvoAnimations) that same day, receiving over 3.2 million views, 114,000 likes, 21,000 retweets and 430 replies in the same timeframe.

Spread

The Avocado Animations' video rapidly garnered praise and virality as it spread online and was reposted in the following days.

For example, it was shared to the /r/animation[9] subreddit on May 9th, 2026, receiving over 4,800 upvotes and 110 comments in roughly one month.

Two days following Avocado Animations' "birds for some reason" release, the first parody was produced in the form of real-life courtship rituals from various birds caught on video, cut as if they were dancing to Michael Jackson's song. The video was posted by YouTuber[2] V/RUS VA on May 10th, 2026, garnering over 591,000 views, 44,000 likes and 900 comments in a month.

On May 24th, TikToker[10] austinkingadventures included it in a Why You So Quiet? What's On Your Mind? meme that garnered over 1.7 million views, 205,300 likes and 1,250 comments in three weeks.

Further parodies using various video game assets and backgrounds soon followed as the meme continued spreading into late May and June 2026.

For instance, on May 26th, 2026, YouTuber[4] Sky Anbu uploaded an animation meme inspired by the Avocado Animations video set in the game Sky: Children of the Light, receiving over 11,000 views, 1,900 likes and 130 comments in three weeks.

On June 7th, 2026, YouTuber[3] DiabloDex uploaded another animation meme inspired by Avocado Animations, using models from Elden Ring and Nightreign, garnering over 80,430 views, 8,300 likes and 410 comments in 11 days.

Dance Trend

The human-like dance movements from the blue-breasted bird caught the attention of many trying to replicate it in shorts.

For example, on June 3rd, 2026, YouTuber[5] Negative Space uploaded a video demonstrating how to do the dance from the Avocado Animations video, garnering over 96,000 views, 3,700 likes and 70 comments in two weeks.

Also on June 3rd, YouTuber[6] Jay Rose posted a Shorts video performing the dance, receiving over 2.5 million views, 95,000 likes and 860 comments in the same timeframe.

On June 15th, 2026, VTuber and YouTuber[7] Kiichan Ch. 狐井アキラ uploaded a video titled "birds for some reason..?" featuring their character dancing, which garnered over 6,000 views, 570 likes and 90 comments in three days.

Sequel

On August 15th, 2026, Avocado released a sequel video in which the female bird is seen trying to get revenge on the two other birds by dancing to Michael Jackson's Slave To The Rythm (shown below). Titled "More birds for some reason", the video has already accumulated to more than 800 000 views within 9 hours of its release.
