Velma Meets the Original Velma refers to a viral fan animation based on Scooby-Doo characters in which Velma from the 2023 series Velma suddenly remembers her previous incarnations and Scooby-Doo killing them and recreating the world every time Velma starts asking questions about Scooby's ability to talk. Released in early 2023, the creepypasta animation has since inspired reaction videos, references in memes and fan art.

Origin

On February 15th, 2023, the YouTube^[1] channel Avocado Animations uploaded "Velma Meets the Original Velma," a fan-made animation based on Scooby-Doo characters. In the animation, Shaggy from the 2023 show adopts a dog, with Velma immediately struck by visions of her past lives from previous Scooby-Doo installations in which she is solving mysteries together with Mystery Inc. After running out of the house, Velma is confronted by the dog, an eerie, bipedal version of Scooby-Doo, who reveals that he has killed the original Mystery Inc. and reset the Scooby-Doo world after Velma started asking questions about Scooby's ability to talk, and repeated the process each time Velma remembered of her past incarnations and the events that unfolded.

The video (shown below) accumulated over 12 million views in one year.

The animation was followed by reaction videos and remixes on TikTok and YouTube. On February 18th, 2023, TikTok^[2] user @wimdomgaming posted a video summarizing the plot of the animation (shown below, left) that received over 6.7 million views and 1.1 million likes in one year (shown below, left). On February 19th, TikTok^[3] user @tiranela41 uploaded a remix of the video that garnered over 1.9 million views and 167,000 likes in one year (shown below, right).

On February 23rd, 2023, YouTuber^[4] catmania posted a gameplay demonstration of a Friday Night Funkin' mod titled Velma Meets the Original Velma: Remembrance based on the video, which received over 909,000 views in one year (shown below).

In 2023 and 2024, various artworks of Scooby-Doo and Velma based on the animation were posted on DeviantArt,^[5] Newgrounds,^[6] Reddit^[7] and other sites.
