Why You So Quiet? What's On Your Mind? is an exploitable meme featuring a crude outline drawing on a person's head alongside a caption that inquires, "Why you so quiet? What's on your mind?" In memes, the outline's brain space is typically filled in with a thought that may be on someone's mind. The meme originated from a series of hornyposts on Twitter in 2018 and became popularized on Instagram after 2019.

Origin

The earliest known upload of the illustration of a person's mind comes from a December 5th, 2013, article^[1] titled, "Project Launch — What’s so special about the Human Mind?" on a blog affiliated with the School of Advanced Study in the United Kingdom (seen below).

The template caption for the "Why You So Quiet? What's On Your Mind?" meme likely emerges from a deleted Twitter status or was made to resemble the Twitter font. The earliest known use of the image can be traced to an August 2nd, 2018, post by the Twitter^[2] account @dayswitout_sex. The post contains a watermark from the Instagram page @dirtyminds, however, the post has since been deleted from the account (seen below). Various Twitter users posted similar "thirsty" versions of the meme in consecutive months.^[3][4]

On November 19th, 2019, the Instagram^[6] page @shitheadsteve posted a version of the meme that gathered over 300,000 likes in four years (seen below, right).

On April 14th, 2021, Twitter^[7] user @billynvrleft posted a version of the meme that gathered over 100,000 likes in two years (seen below, left). On April 11th, 2023, the Instagram^[8] page @gatito._.sin.hojar posted a version of the meme that references the Hapi Hapi Hapi Cat viral video, gathering over 400,000 likes in a month (seen below, right).
