Brother Calm is a nickname given to a white cat with an expression of complete calmness that was caught by a cat feeder camera on the Hello Street Cat livestream app and later gained online popularity alongside other street cats such as Mr. Fresh. In March 2024, Brother Calm appeared in various memes and inspired fan art.

Origin

On February 29th, 2024, X^[1] user @yifullofsin posted a cat feeder camera video of a calm-looking white cat sitting with its eyes closed, writing that Chinese netizens were calling the cat "Brother Calm" (ch. 淡定哥). The video (shown below) received over 6,300 reposts and 35,000 likes in two weeks.

Later that day, X^[2] user @ShootaCat posted the same video, with the upload garnering over 3,500 reposts and 31,000 likes in two weeks.

On March 2nd, an entry for Brother Calm was created on the Street Cat Wiki.^[3] According to the Wiki, as of March 14th, 2024, the cat made no additional appearances since its initial sighting.

Spread

On March 1st, 2024, X^[4] user @cabby posted the earliest notable meme featuring Brother Calm, presenting him as a spiritual leader. The post (shown below) received over 1,200 reposts and 7,100 likes in two weeks.

On March 2nd, X^[5] user @lorenzobenzo527 posted a You Smoke Too Tough meme about the cat that received over 9,400 reposts and 54,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).

In addition to memes, Brother Calm also inspired fan art submissions. For example, on March 13th, 2024, X user @Zela_Kantal posted a fan art of the cat that received over 1,200 reposts and 6,600 likes in one day (shown below, left and right).
