Buff Cat refers to a particularly muscular-looking cat that went viral in May of 2018 due to a Twitter account devoted to tweeting pictures, commentary, and fan art of the cat.

On May 28th, Twitter account @officialbuffcat^[1] tweeted images of a particularly muscular-looking cat with the caption 99,000 retweets and 287,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

Their next tweet showing the cat with the caption "thicc" gaining over 750 retweets and 1,500 likes (shown below).

They then tweeted a video of the cat which went viral, gaining over 86,000 retweets and 204,000 likes (shown below).

The success of the account's first few tweets inspired others to create fan art and photoshops of the cat. One popular photoshop tweeted by @Send_Lwyds gained over 2,200 retweets (shown below, left). The first piece of fan art was tweeted by @prusicc (shown below, right).
