Capeshit is a slang term used to refer to superhero comics and movies with a neutral or negative connotation.

Origin

When the word "capeshit" came into usage is unclear, but it has been used on 4chan since at least 2009. The earliest found capeshit mention is a November 15th, 2009 4chan post^[1] on the anime board /a/ in a discussion about manga and western comics.

Another /a/ post^[2] dating to August 29th, 2010 associates capeshit with the comics and cartoons board /co/. The term may have originated on /co/ but archives for the board before May 4th, 2012 are unavailable.^[3]

Spread

"Capeshit" has been mentioned^[4] on /co/ over 60,000 times. On the television and film board /tv/, more than 350,000 archived posts^[5] using the word are found.
