About

Cat Throwing A Brick refers to a GIF of a cat seeming to throw a brick towards the viewer. The GIF has been parodied with a variety of other characters tossing the brick and has been the subject of multiple YouTube parodies.

Origin

The original brick animation (left) was uploaded on December 1st, 2022 by Newgrounds user mega-KOT under the submission name "think fast."[1] The animation features the Pokémon Umbreon throwing a brick at the screen. The origin of the cat version (right), and the original source of the cat photo, are currently unknown.



Spread

In February of 2023, the meme saw renewed interest following several edits using music from the game Ultrakill. On February 18th, YouTuber GruesomelyInsane posted an edit that gained over 6,000 views in ten days (shown below, right). On February 21st, YouTuber Slicey Boi posted a similar edit (shown below, right).

On Feb 21, 2023, Twitter user @wagintrowl1 posted an edit parodying the game "Rhythm Heaven Fever." The post received over 4,000 retweets and 12,000 likes in one week, with the video accumulating over 180k views (shown below).
