About
Cave of Swallows Jump, refers to viral clips of people jumping into the Cave of Swallows. Most of these clips originate from the David Attenborough narrated BBC Nature Documentary Planet Earth. Videos of the jumps have been edited with different sound effects, music, videogame interfaces overlaid over them, or have captions added for humorous effect.
Origin
On Apr 22, 2007, episode 4 of the nature documentary series Planet Earth titled "caves" premiered.[1] The beginning of the episode shows different clips of people jumping into the pit cave known as the Cave of Swallows in Mexico[2].
The oldest known surviving clip of this online was on YouTube on Sep 30, 2007[3]. This video amassed 200,000 views within 3 years[4] and nearly 1 million views in 10 years[5].
