About
Celeste Chapter 2 B-sides Last Screen is a Losslike referring to an infamous section of a challenge level in the platforming game Celeste where a player is tasked with navigating vertically between two platforms that phase in and out of tangibility while using diamonds to aid their jumps. The level's two parallel lines surrounding three diamonds became a visual gag on Reddit akin to Loss and the Dash Spider Geometry Dash level in February of 2024, as people transposed the pattern into other games.
Origin
In Celeste, a player can collect a cassette tape in each chapter that will unlock that chapter's "B-sides," which are shorter but significantly harder levels utilizing the mechanics introduced in that chapter. The final section of the Chapter 2 B-sides requires the player to navigate vertically between two platforms that phase in and out of tangibility while using diamonds to aid their jumps (playthrough of the level by Richard Iliff shown below).
On February 9th, 2024, Redditor ErzhanGMD posted a meme in /r/Celestememes[1] implying that to them, the level was the same as what the sun is to Dracula and Kryptonite is to Superman. To represent the level, they drew two parallel blue lines surrounding three diamonds. The post gained over 440 points in four days (shown below).
Spread
The post swiftly inspired others to make edits to other video game screens with the lines and diamonds pattern, a la the "Dash Spider" meme.
