About

Cherry On Top Reaction Images, also known as Cherry On Top Memes, refers to a series of reaction image and video memes that gained prominence in comment sections on TikTok comment sections starting in 2025. The images are visual shorthand for the common idiom "cherry on top," meaning a desirable feature typically perceived as the finishing touch to something already good. The images or clips, particularly one of a person's hand placing a bright-red cherry on top of a white cake, are used to react to content both ironically and earnestly on TikTok.

The Cherry On Top meme is also commonly used alongside the slang term "genuinely," with commenters often calling out the use of it in videos by sharing the stock image.

Origin

The most commonly used reaction image is sourced from a stock photography image on istockphoto.com,[1] credited to user ene, which was uploaded to the site on December 29th, 2006. The image began to be used on various baking blogs and websites dating back to 2010.[2]

Though the first instance of the image's usage as a reaction image is unknown, it began appearing in TikTok comment sections sometime in 2025, likely due to the image being a popular image search result for the query "cherry on top," a popular and well-established idiom in the English language, which is used to describe an added flourish that makes something good even better. Over time, a slew of variants began to be produced, usually with the help of generative AI tools.

Genuinely

Genuinely refers to the memetic use of the adverb "genuinely" in video caption memes on TikTok and Instagram Reels, playing on the word's ubiquity and exaggerative function. Commonly written in all-caps like "GENUINELY" to humorously emphasize its use, the word was integral to a Slang Overload series that developed in late 2025 that paired it with other buzzwords like Chicago Drill Reverse Edit, Wabi Sabi and Turks and Caicos, all stemming from the "Reach Flow State" snowclone.

Its original memetic use on TikTok roughly traces back to the Me Genuinely Tweaking meme from 2023, and to online AAVE in general, largely manifesting in GIFTok and JuggTok video caption posts. The satirical overuse of "Genuinely" notably mutated in November 2025, leading to variant terms like "Lowkeuinely," a portmanteau of "lowkey" and "genuinely," and the use of its synonyms like "sincerely."
